Henry wrote:Jimmy's done the business when England have REALLY needed him to do it, recently. Against the best teams in the World. in all conditions. I'd go as far as saying Jimmy since 2009 has been just about as good as Steyn. I've said it before- I can't imagine Steyn bowling better than Jimmy did in Aus. He was immense.
93 wickets at 23.43 since the start of 2010. As I said, he's improved. He's pretty awesome in fact. Better than Zaheer, certainly. Still quite a way behind Steyn.
PeterCS wrote:You're making the Strhino sound like a right nancy boy. Worse than Watto used to be.
Injured thrice in a year and a half. 7 Tests in his entire career. That's all I'm really saying. As comparable with Steyn as goat's cheese.
Re: Steyn vs McGrath
I quite liked "the Strhino", though.

Why are people telling me that they're too different to compare like they're enlightening me in some way?
FFS. I guess you can't pre-empt stupidity.

An interesting point, but one that recent studies have shown to be correct. Even though Dale Steyn has on occasion behaved like a total inbred turd-burger, he is, in fact, not Glenn McGrath.

Re: Steyn vs McGrath
Being serious now I'd probably prefer to have McGrath in my team, he was just so ridiculously consistent, though I might change my view when Steyn ends his career. Steyn is more explosive though and at his best I think he's the better bowler to watch.
Will be interesting to see how Steyn develops when he gets into his 30s, he probably has a few years worth of pace left in the tank, but when he loses that I'd be very impressed if he still had McGrath like figures.

Re: Steyn vs McGrath
I think the key factor in Steyn's favour is the difference in strike rates. 40 to 52 is not a small difference.
Alternatively, McGrath's economy is 2.49 to Steyn's 3.48. Again, not a small difference.
I suppose it depends whether you place a higher value on economy or strike rate in a great bowler.

Re: Steyn vs McGrath
This thread is forum gold.
It started off mundane enough, except for Planet Pakistan's unlikely confession that he likes a bowler who isn't particularly FAST.
Then Henry tries to tell us Harris and Anderson are at least as good as, if not better than Steyn. I wasn't even sure which Harris he meant at first, Paul Harris? Ryan Harris? Chris Harris? ****** it, why not all three of them?
Then the philosophical conundrum that is comparing two totally different bowlers.

If not better than Steyn? Immense bollocks!
In the last two years, Jimmy has been AS GOOD as Steyn, imo. Ryan Harris has also been good but yeah, he seems to be a chronic crock. (There you go Aussie fans- I've just woofed an injury-free 12 months for Harris)

Ergo, Jimmy > McGrath. You know it makes sense.

Ambrose's performance in Adelaide does not get the kudos it deserves.
