Test young guns Empty Test young guns

Post by JGK Sat 26 Nov 2011, 11:55

It's been a pretty good couple of weeks for the new brigade in tests. Philander, Cummins, Darren Bravo, Kohli and Ashwin have been outstanding even though they have been playing with and against some of the all time greats of a sport that has been played for over 130 years at international level.

I get the sense that there is a real renewal of Test cricket occurring. The Aust v India series may well be the end of an era with the likes of Ponting, SRT, Dravid and VVS close to the finish and Harby basically gone whereas maybe we are seeing the start of something great in the careers of Ashwin, Kohli, Ohja, Cummins, Starc, Khawaja, Warner (OK, probably not him but who knows) etc. With exciting young guys coming through, hopefully there is plenty to look forward to in the next decade.

Love live test cricket.

I was thinking exactly the same this week. It seems to have been ages since numerous young players have come through all with the potential of being greats in the game.

Could be a brilliant decade for test cricket, if only we start having less 2 and 3 match series.

Fark, 10 years ago I'd be pissed if 4 test series were the norm, now I'd beg for them.

And yet the ICC has delayed creating a test championship because it clashes with.......the Champions Trophy.

Everyone WANTS to love test cricket, but the ICC are making it as hard as possible.

Philander got some decent decks for his trade to bowl on.

Ashwin got some decent decks for his trade to bowl on.

Darren Bravo's last years news.

Cummins bowled well and then got crocked.

agree JGK ... with Paine or Wade coming in; and Finn, Brathwaite, Kirk Edwards, Bishoo, a new Saffie keeper (? de Kock) also emerging as stars of the future. There are some hopeful signs for the West Indies and Zimbabwe in Tests, too.
