The young people...
There was a man on the radio today talking about the young people.
Said we should listen to the young people, said they're a victim of conspiracy. The young people! Jesus! What's that supposed to mean? I never did one damn good thing 'til I was over thirty.
I'm gonna get up in the morning, chug-a-lug a coffee, get on my bike and ride away, find me a beach with a nice little break and I'm gonna catch wave after wave after wave, until there's nothing on my mind.

Catch waves until your mind is empty? YOU could do that just as easy standing in the bathtub....

Re: The young people...
every now and then I forget they still make young people. the bloke on zimi's radio (or in zimi's noodle) sounds like an RSL member or a religious revivalist or X dressing member of the CWA, or the president of the USA (or all the above).
It seems each succeeding generation of older people like to impugn the value of the teenagers of the time.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

Stick 'em up chimneys and down coal mines I say.
The latest thing I hear is that some schools are stopping the sack race event in sport's days cos it's too dangerous. I guess it is...... given all the cotton wool they can trip over......
Whatever next?

Re: The young people...
Well, I'm twenty and I've done nothing of note nor of any great worth either, be it to myself or others, so I suppose that proves to an extent the point that children are a bunch of selfish tossers. I have hopes of better things though that don't revolve merely around money, marriage and a family. I lust after none of those things, in fact, I'd simply like to follow my feet to wherever they will take me and look upon the multitudinous world and its many glories, seeing it from all sides and gaining a level of contentment from it. I like to think of myself as a man in pursuit of beauty and knowledge, somebody who longs for a simpler life without stress and enemies, but I am an arrogant megalomaniac and other people have different perceptions, I suppose.
The young people are certainly not the future though, or at least they are the harbingers of a bleaker future if they are. I personally have suffered a reasonably recent misfortune at the hands of certain youths, youths who I believe are far more reflective of society at large than the government would like us to believe, and once again the whole experience made me yearn for a world separate of Western philosophies. It was a tormenting experience, I suppose, but only insofar as I looked within myself and thought, 'the world has descended ever deeper into sickness for people like me, thanks to the people, like these, who unfortunately inhabit it.'
In retrospect, like all moments, it was worthwhile for offering a different perspective on life and confirming what I already thought, that I was not afraid to stand up for myself in the face of adversity and that I was a pretty decent person.
Anyway, suffice to say that it would give me some deal of pressure to remove certain persons from my neighbourhood who are frankly, a cancer on society. As I'm sure you can guess, these persons were involved in the aforesaid 'misfortune'.

Augustus's screed reads almost exactly like the work of a certain lardy literary character. It's uncanny.
