So that's that for Cummins then......
Apparently his manager has confirmed he will be seeking an IPL contract.
Well, it was good while it lasted.

Of course he is. He wouldn't even be in the Aus Test side but for the Champ's League, playing for the NSW Goldens. Not sure what you expected.
Re: So that's that for Cummins then......
Yeah, it's pretty naive to expect a Gen Y cricketer to ignore the temptations of the IPL and concentrate on establishing himself in his national side.
I'm Gen Y and I can honestly say i'd tell the IPL to go jump for the first couple of years of my career until I was an established member of the national side. It's not like playing for the national team pay peanuts. It's still 1 million a year FFS.

Easy to say trev but much harder to do when you have the bloke who is guiding your career saying "you only have a limited earning window, you have to take the cash when you can", "it will set you up for life" etc

Once again the IPL is to the detriment of Cricket in this country, CA should show some balls given his injury and ensure he is fully rested/recovered before seeking a IPL payday.

That heel/ankle injury that Cummins has is one that stays with a fast bowler for life. Shaun Pollock had it, and so did Brett Lee. They both had surgery about half way through their careers to sort it out. It caused Pollock to lose a yard of pace, and the Doctors made a mistake with Lee and removed half of his brain instead.

I'd totally turn it down, but as Woody said it's easy to say that. But, I'm a man with very limited desire for personal gain and material things. They get a lot of money. The only reason I can think of that they wouldn't be satisfied is because of banal professional jealousy.
Re: So that's that for Cummins then......
These days, a player has a "team" of people around him that rely on his income, and try and talk up their man at every opportunity.
I reckon Fred Flintoff employed at least 5 people for various things. Manager, personal trainer, physio, PR manager...... They're all out to milk their man for as much as they can, while they can.

Well, when those five are actually two people - Dave Roberts and Neil Fairbrother then it's not too bad .
Point is, they don't have to do anything. It'd purely be his decision. His decision is '$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$'.

A bit hard when Cricket Australia is a partner in the Champions League.

Meh. The inept morons that look after the health and fitness of the players will almost certainly cause Cummins to miss the IPL because of injury anyway.
If CA is serious about Cummins they should say "OK, you can play in the IPL but you will not be picked for any JAMODIs for Australia because we want to keep you fit and your pay packet will fall accordingly."

Missing out on JAMODIs will be a minor dent in his pay packet compared to missing out on the IPL.
The IPL will be a massive net gain.

But the Australian public don't watch the IPL. So he is giving up fame in his own country and playing for Aust in return for cash. That decision alone will affect his "brand".

I think even if he doesn't play in the IPL, his ODI appearances will be limited, at least for the next couple of years.

Cummins injury update
07 December, 2011
Cricket Australia (CA) today advises that Patrick Cummins return from injury has been delayed due to a bone stress component to his injury.
Australian Team Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Patrick injured his heel early into the second Test against South Africa.
By the end of the match he was quite sore and we had scans done after the game that confirmed heel ‘fat pad’ injury.
On return to Australia, he was given some time to recover and was reviewed throughout last week by NSW medical staff and then by myself in Brisbane during the first Vodafone Test versus New Zealand.
By the end of last week it was apparent to all of us managing him that he was progressing slower than expected for a soft tissue injury of the heel.
As such we arranged for him to see a foot specialist and had further scans that have identified a bone component to his injury, that was not evident on the original scans.
We now believe that Patrick has a bone stress injury as well as the ‘fat pad’ injury. This means that his recovery will take longer than first expected. He is not likely to resume bowling until early to mid-January 2012.”
CA General Manager Team Performance Pat Howard said: "The medical staff took a decision that Patrick’s recovery versus previous scans did not seem consistent and proactively made the decision that further scans were required.
These scans have revealed a bone stress injury which pushes out his recovery by a few weeks.
This wasn’t picked up in the initial scans done in South Africa. Unfortunately this, when combined with Patrick's young age to prepare for Test cricket, means that he will miss much of the Indian series."
"Whilst unfortunate for Pat, this presents an opportunity for other players which was evident in Brisbane and we will continue to support players to have those quality opportunities.”

CA has pulled Cummins from the Big Bash after using him to promote it
If he has any injury/workload concerns he will be pulled from the IPL by CA

In other related news, Mark Nicholas has been found drowned in a Darlinghurst toilet bowl. It is believed to be suicide.

Pollock predicted during ABC radio stint in the recent series that Cummins' action leaves him vulnerable to heel and back injuries. Didn't take long!
