Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
Should do, he'll have to get in the break again though. The other one is Rolland, can't see Chris Wanker Sorensen winning.

You speak as an expert on non-motorised pedal vehicular transport?

It's the best username the creative mind came up with, should've just had Shriram.
Anyway, Wiggins has the race now and Froome should be second.

Not a racing fan by any means, has a Briton ever won the TdF?

No, would be the first time in the 99 times it has been staged.
We've had plenty of stage winners and claimed some of the other jerseys, but Wiggins' 4th place two or three years back was the best overall finish to date. When plans were announced to take British track cycling success onto the roads, I remember thinking we will never have a British Tour winner as we don't have any mountains...

Just had the thought today ... wonder whether Froome might yet race him off in the last couple of stages ... drop him on the last hill? He obviously wants to be in a different team next year ...

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
There's no significant mountains left now. A sprinters' stage tomorrow, a time trial which is Wiggins' speciality and the procession into Paris.
Today was his last opportunity to break ranks, and he stuck to the team task. Could have probably caught Valverde for the stage win, but was happy to stick with the yellow jersey and put another 30 seconds or so on Nibali.

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
Well, it could never live up to last year which was surely among the best ever. But the route always looked uninspiring, the absence of Contador and A.Schleck took away a lot of potential for action in the mountains, and one team have controlled it in a way not seen since Armstrong's US Postal (a few of his wins were pretty dull). But it will be remembered over here more than any other with the British success we've seen...JGK wrote:Most boring tdf ever I reckon.
Next year is the 100th Tour so surely all the classic climbs will be in there, a couple of absent stars could be back and Froome may be racing Wiggins on another team. Should be one to look forward to.

Agree on all points. Next year should be a ripper. I think there will be some major re-shuffling amongst the teams before then.

Any chance of an Alpe d'Huez time trial?

A bit of a 'nothing' stage today. Looks like everyone has conceeded the win to Wiggans. The only interest in todays stage will be with the minor jersey holders.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
They did that once before, didn't they? Prefer it at the end of an epic mountain stage like we had last year.JGK wrote:Any chance of an Alpe d'Huez time trial?

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
Belgian cyclist Jan Ghyselinck is having an impressive Tour. Last in the yellow jersey standings, so must be a sprinter, right? Well actually, second last in the green jersey contest with negative points. Breakaway man? No polka dot points either. And also qualifies for the white jersey contest, for which he is obviously last as well...

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
Classics rider, that's what he's supposed to be. But he could become more famous for such efforts like Vansevenant was (for finishing dead last in the TOur 3 times).
Nice stage and a nice finish from Cav.
The Tour of Japan has an interesting annual stage on Mt Fuji. Eleven kilometre road stage. It's a crazy mountain which Cameron Wurf was harder to ride than the Monte Zoncolan, which is usually considered Europe's hardest climb. Anyone who has their gearing wrong is farked. Fits the Japanese perfectly. I'd like to see that.JGK wrote:Any chance of an Alpe d'Huez time trial?

Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
Well I'd disagree with the boring comment but only because I'm English. Sunday could see the first ever Brit winner and also see Cav overtaking Armstrong in the all time stage wins category. He has a more than decent chance of taking the overall record by the end of his career, in fact he should smash it if he carries on at his current rate.

An Aussie and a Brit in yellow in consecutive years (having dominated the Green jersey between them for the previous decade).

Congrats to Wiggo & Sky. Looks like he will be sipping the Champers on the run into the Champs-Elysées today.
Re: Le Tour de Pharmaceutical 2012
For once the man in yellow and his team have work to do on the final stage, to set Cavendish up for the sprint. They could really take the piss by having a lead-out train with bubbly in hand...
