They'll be playing on raging turners with hardly any life for the quicks. Nothing surer. I actually think Swanny and Monty are better bowlers than Ashwin and Ojha. If KP and Prior can counter-attack their way to a score of around 300 (because it's safe to assume the others will push, prod, and fail) then we have a chance against their vulnerable batting.

has any visiting spinner made an impact in india in the last 20 years? can't think of anyone but saqlain in 1999. teams that win tests in india usually do it on the back of a solid pace attack

south africa is the only team to win a test in india in the last 6 years. no spinner of note

If our top five can't make the runs against the Indian attack on flat pitches, then the quality of 9,10, and 11 shouldn't matter much. The Indian batting is vulnerable these days. Let's hit them with our best attack. Keep them on the mat. Guys like Sehwag, Gambhir, and Tendulkar haven't made test hundreds for over a year.

I'll be amazed if we start the series with five bowlers. I think it will be the usual suspects with Bairstow at six.
