I think it's spelled Alex Somlyay, h.

Dunno what Vexnews but this is what it says...

"The Australian Federal Police have been asked by the ALP to investigate the alleged offer of a bribe by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to disgruntled Liberal MP Alex Somlyay if he agreed to leave politics quietly."

This article is from Vexnews....the Hun buried the story deep in the rag

THE CRIMINALISATION OF POLITICS: Are our political leaders PM Gillard and Tony Abbott crooks?
By VEXNEWS ⋅ November 4, 2012
The Australian Federal Police have been asked by the ALP to investigate the alleged offer of a bribe by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to disgruntled Liberal MP Alex Somlyay if he agreed to leave politics quietly.

Samantha Maiden of News Ltd publication has revealed the complaint and the original yarn that explained Somlyay was telling people about the offer.

Somlyay was recently rumoured to have offered himself as Speaker, in an attempt to succeed his former nemesis and occasional photographic subject Peter Slipper.

When asked on the record about the alleged offer, Somylay won’t deny it but says “I don’t talk about private conversations.” Ominous, especially if he has evidence of it, as some believe or hope.

Coalition MPs convinced that accusing the PM of being an embezzler twenty years ago might carefully consider where this kind of politics ends up. They will probably be in government soon, whether under Abbott or the ambitious Scott Morrison who is certainly sniffing around from what we hear.

If Somylay was made this indecent proposal and has evidence, could he blow Abbott up at any time? Will it lead to Labor doing to Abbott on bribery what the Coalition’s been trying to do Gillard on embezzlement? Or is just Canberra sledging? We suspect the latter.

We love a bit of scandal (as much, if not more than the next man) but deeming our political leaders criminals on the thinnest of evidence probably doesn’t do the democratic project much good. Transparency International says Australia is one of the least corrupt countries on Earth. How that squares with the easily-formed presumptions of criminal-level wrongdoing we hold about our political leaders has not yet been adequately explained.

One newbie in the area of pushing the old she-must-be-a-criminal yarn against the PM is The Age’s “Editor-at-large” Mark Baker, fresh from recooking the old meal with enthusiasm, who was sighted just yesterday enjoying the delights of Etihad at the front of the plane before alighting in Abu Dhabi on the back of an official-looking VIP-only golf buggy. Nothing like a junket to a world-class kleptocracy to boost the moral fibre ahead of implying criminality in others

Why am I not surprised? Right up there with the ABC and Crikey. Rolling Eyes

From the comments in that link:

My feeling is that if Turnbull takes the Lib leadership before the next election the Libs will almost certainly lose. Turnbull failed to rally the party when he took over before & will just split the party again. I don't think he has the support of the grass roots Liberal voters.

Irrespective of what polled voters think, there is no way the Libs, rightly or wrongly, are gonna dump Abbott for Turnbull. Turnbull is as despised amongst the Libs as Krudd is amongst the Pinkos.

A monetary bribe? ... that would be stupid ... surely there is a post as British High Commissioner or Ambassador to the European Union position that he could have promised, given electoral success?
