My youngest is caught up in the "Beast from the East" in the UK. She's at sea level in Essex, yet her car has many inches of snow on it. The roads are too dangerous to venture out and her school is closed.

Meanwhile the melt in the Arctic proceeds apace.
The planet is going to hell in a handcart. Shit eh! Lets support Adarni..
The ALP is a disgrace. Meanwhile Gus Nossal and other eminent quacks have noted the high rate of low birth weight babies in the Latrobe Valley. Where coal is burned for electricity.

So Skully you dismiss the views of eminent docs and the record Arctic melt and support Adani?
Admit to watching DiNatale play footy a few times in the old VFA. He was useful. However, like the rest of the Greens he lacks the analytical tools necessary to assess situations and develop a strategic way forward.
The Greens find symptoms but cannot join the dots.
The Nats are simply dumb rural hicks.
The right of the Libs are fascist religious maniacs. The rest are simply venal hand maidens of the corporates. Downer epitomizes that type. He presided over the spying on E Timor and then got a fat consultancy reward from Woodside.
Worst of all is the class traitor radishes. Shortpants is up with Latham as a grub. They effectively colluded with the Browns on the Timor issue, let alone suppression of wage justice.

I simply find moaning about Climate Change every time there is a hot or cold weather event extremely tedious and oh so Sarah Hanson Young.
Greens, they have all the problems but no solutions. Just like horrie.

Keep coal and coal seam gas in the ground. Tax every family on the planet who has more than one kid.
The human race breeds like berserk amoeba. China for a period offered hope with its one child policy but has reneged.
The world is addled with short term thinking and absurd fairies at the bottom of the garden religious beliefs. Personally I see zero prospects of improvement.

an observational study uncontrolled for maternal smoking, a potent contributor to low infant birth weight and brain size
I agree with you about the urgent need to reducer stop coal mining, but we should not use junk science to support that argument; it reduces the argument's credibility

Nossal et al made the observations about the Valley based on some Seppo research. It would be easy enough to correct for smoking rates by comparing rates off under 2.5k by comparison with poplns with similar maternal health determinants.

What a cheery chappy you are.
No solution for base load power though. Nuclear perhaps?

Again we'd have to import the talent and open a couple of more nuclear engineering schools. Environmentally nuclear makes sense but economically? We've got most of the world's known reserves of uranium but they're miles from nowhere. Transport would be a bitch for any number of reasons and transmission expensive.

Certainly save a shitload on transmission. But about as much chance as drilling for gas there (and there are ELAs pretty close to inner Sydney).

Concerned about a bad bushfire at Tathra near Bega on south coast of NSW. Know a few people from camping and fishing expeditions there over the years..
Darwin and topend in dire strife as well..
So Skully re an earlier post, I offers a solution to climate change - reducing population growth and cutting demand. Assuming you agree there is climate change, what are your solutions? I hope you won't run the nuke solution bearing in mind Chernobyl and Fukuova.

I'd hook a pipe from you to a turbine. Unlimited hot air would generate copious electricity.
It's coal-fired power stations for the base load, h, just like the rest of the world.
I see South Aus voters got sick of Weirdo Weatherill's dodgy renewable power solutions that left the State in the dark more than once.
