Kevin Knee-tear-sen ruled out of NZ series.
I don't know what's wrong with him, though. Aids or something.

Knees are the beginning of the end. Nice work KP - see you next lifetime.

An ECB statement read: "Kevin Pietersen has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy following a repeat MRI scan on his right knee earlier today. The scan has shown some improvement in the bruising to the bone that occurred in the build up to the Test Series against New Zealand in February. However Pietersen will not have recovered sufficiently in time for the NatWest one-day series against New Zealand beginning May 31 and the Champions Trophy which follows. Pietersen will now start a graduated rehabilitation program with a view to resuming full training by the middle of June."

I was a little worried when they mentioned "bone bruising" a while back.
I seem to recall Jack Wilshere missing 18 months of football for "bone bruising" that initially seemed like it'd just heal itself up in a few weeks with some R & R.

The term does sound a bit dubious.

And Wilshere is 21, whereas KP is in his 30s. Vaughan never overcame the knee problems that he developed at a similar age.
Obviously they will do all they can to get him ready for the Ashes but if not then it's a chance for someone else to step up, it's not quite as disastrous as it would have been 4 or 5 years ago (and even in 2009 we managed to overcome it and win the Ashes). May give Prior his opportunity up the order, nothing to lose by trying it against the Snoozers at least.

That will probably be that for KP. Expect a tearful retirement announcement around late September with a brief recovery to play the IPL for the next three years.

Flintoff did hint the other day that KP might retire by September. Many of our AFL footballers recover reasonably quickly from bone bruising but they usually sustain it when they have hyper-extended a knee during a match. KP's problems sounds more like wear and tear and bone on bone.
I noticed that KP tweeted recently that he wanted to play for England for another four years.

I don't think it's a wear-and-tear injury - he buggered it doing fielding drills in the build up to the first Test in NZ. Before that he had the knees of a newborn.
Although his hammys have been a bit twangy over the years.

They mentioned 'bone on bone'. At first I thought they were on about a homosexual jazz film, but then I thought to myself they were on about his knee. That just shouted 'OPERATION!!!' to me.

The gay Lazarus is now apparently ahead of schedule (the new schedule - he's still missed the old one) and due to play for Surrey early in June, in plenty of time for the Gashes.
Praise Jesus. Have a wank. Whatever seems appropriate. Go nuts.
