Chanderpaul
As big a fan as I am of Chanderpaul, I can give him absolutely no credit for his performance in this Test Match. Down to potentially the last pair, he's batting for survival, almost as if his life depended on it. At no point has he made an attempt to raise the Windies to a respectable score.
He has been out-scored by Taylor and now Edwards in both partnerships. He is, unfortunately, chasing statistics rather than victories...

Re: Chanderpaul
I agree - terrible batting by Chanders (he even let the tailender with a runner take a single off the last ball of an over).
Redeeming himself a little now that Gayle is in.

Re: Chanderpaul
Not really. Gayle made up for him in the end.
Chanderpaul still hindered the Windies' ability to reach 200. It was a good, solid knock admittedly, but he didn't handle the tail at all well, and it was only with the trust of a batsman at the other end that he looked natural.

Agree with Augustus, if he insists on batting at 5 he's going to have to handle the tail better.

Re: Chanderpaul
The answer is for him to bat at 3, as everyone keeps pointing out.

Re: Chanderpaul
And how was exactly the master of all Tendulkar's handling of RP singh and Ishant Sharma. Didn't they outscore the master by about 2:1 in their partnerships?

Re: Chanderpaul
Was going to ask the same thing ...
Sachin had an explanation for that at the end of the day though ... the only question is whether that was the real strategy, and if so (or not), was it the same in this case. Anyone know how the field was set towards the end of the WI innings?

Men on boundary square on both sides, SA were bowling very wide of off stump so he couldnt nudge onto the legside.
Still, I would of thought someone of Shiv's class could manufacture shots as we saw him doing while Gayle was going at the other end.

Re: Chanderpaul
Yes, but Tendulkar's reasoning was that the Aussies had uber-defensive fields for him while they had attacking fields for the taileneders, and so he took the easy single and let them go for their shots instead. This way he thought the probability of getting more runs added to the total was greater than if he were to go on the attack himself.

A bad word cannot be said about Chanderpaul. A true servant of Windies Cricket. And certainly not a FTB as some like to make out.
