Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Is he the most underrated West Indian cricketer of all time? I guess Larry Gomes would be another one, but Shiv's record in all forms of cricket is right up there with the likes of Lloyd and Greenidge. Hopefully his achievements will be appreciated a lot more now that Lara has retired.

Shiv is a better bat than Gomes - you just wouldn't want to pay to watch him bat - unless you could guarantee he would smite 10 off the last two balls of a game to win!

I like the unorthodoxy of his technique. All the textbook perfect batsmen these days can get a bit boring. Shiv is something different.

He's class.
Averaged something like 39 in the 90s and 50 in the noughties though.

Re: Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Shiv is coming into his own now that Lara has retired and he is the man that has to carry the batting lineup. I think he has realised his own worth to the side and is performing a lot better as a result.
What I love about Shiv's batting is that he has a positive effect on his partner at the other end. Inconsistent batsmen like Bravo, Samuels and Ramdin appear transformed when they are involved in a partnership with Shiv.
I honestly think he will end up with a test average of over 50, a ODI average over 40 and a first class average of 55.

Re: Shivnarine Chanderpaul
I don't think he'll finish his career with a test average of 50 WIFAN, as the peak (Which is now) is almost inevitably followed by a decline, which I think will leave his average around about where it is now (47).

Word.
Looks terrible, but actually at delivery is almost spot on.
His placement is exceptional on most occasions as well!

top 6 (not in order) = Kallis, Ponting, Tendulkar, Pietersen, Hussey and Chanderpaul? What do the 'ratings' say?

Re: Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Chanderpaul's a fabulous player, and as mentioned widely under-rated.
Had a very similar average to Ricky Ponting in the 90s, and is a similar age. He's not in Ponting's class, but he isn't that far behind. Quality, quality player. You could argue he's one of the top 10 Windies bats of all time IMO.
