Re: Chanderpaul retires
Very sad to see him go.
One of the all time greats. Little g greats.
Probably Windies second all time eleven. If not then definitely their third team.
In his younger days was an underrated fielder. A might batsman who could shift gears in an instant. Though he became the wall in the last decade of his career.

Very good player whose tenacity and skill would have enhanced the WI team if he had not been discarded prematurely. Well played.

Perhaps two years late. But a mighty little servant of WIndies cricket. A class apart from the rest of the other batsmen since Lara.

Universally respected. The wall role was a product of team circumstances

For the last ten years of his career, he was an island of quality in a sea of shoite. Not a favourite of mine to watch, but his record speaks for itself.

Re: Chanderpaul retires
I've heard a conspiracy theory that certain people in WICB didn't want Chanderpaul to overtake Brian Lara as the Windies all-time leading run scorer (he was about 45 runs short of BCL).
He was past his best when they cruelly dropped him, but he still would have been better than a lot of the filth that's been selected for the Windies these last six months.
He would have brought a lot more professionalism to the squad than the disgraceful Marlon Samuels has.

That's the kind of conspiracy theory that anybody half-sensible would laugh off.....if it wasn't about the Windies. Even at 10% of his mid-2000s peak Chunderpile is nowhere near the waste of time and effort Samuels is.

Re: Chanderpaul retires
Loved the shiv. Inspite of how scratchy and ugly he could make it look sometimes I weirdly enjoyed watching him play. I think it was partially down to how untypical of a modern day cricketer/athlete he was.
Slight, awkward and idiosyncratic yet undeniably gritty, composed and devoid of arse-clownery. A proper test cricketer.
If only WI's current mob could muster some of his spirit.

Re: Chanderpaul retires
So it now appears Shiv retired to get a NoC for the MCL. Tino Best and Fidel Edwards followed suit.
Then there are the Pakistanis....
