Is Trescothick on his last legs now?
His form for Somerset over the past few seasons has been immense, but this year his run of scores has been horrendous.
Any Zummerzet fans on here? What's going on with him? At 37 is he gone for good?

Maybe the old eyes are going. Never had a strong technique to fall back on.

Batsmen often do tend to drop off suddenly, Ramprakash and Hick did after years of bashing county attacks for fun, although they were slightly older.
Of course you can still have fluctuations in form and come back even at a late stage in your career - Graham Gooch made a Test triple century at 37 after looking washed up (lbw b Alderman) a year earlier... but it is harder for a player to retain that belief that they can recover their form at an advanced age in cricketing terms.

Hick averaged 40+ in his last three seasons and would have come back for a further season, but that's another story.
I wouldn't write off Tres yet, he's got time to turn his season round.

it would be nice if he could leave the game on a high rather than at the end of bad run of outs...fine servant of English and world cricket

Tres is the sort of guy who will quit as soon as he feels he is no longer good enough. But it's not like he's the only Somerset player who's been shite this season. The whole season has been wretched so far.

Didn't realise he's actually managed an Audi - two T20 ducks before that! Next innings he's on an Olympic...Dello wrote:A pair against Sussex. Ouch.

Poor bastard. The Black Dog will be turning into a Hound of the Baskervilles on him.
I hope his form picks up. He doesn't deserve such extra misery.

Of course, five first-ballers in a row would be Olympic Gold. Wonder if anyone's ever done that? Chris Martin? That Northants number 11 of the late 80s, Mark Robinson was it?

Ajit Agarkar had that famous series in Australia in 1999/2000 when he made 4 first ball ducks in a row followed by a second baller. After that he became known as Aquacker.

Getting out for ducks is better than getting out for scratchy 10s and 15s, imo.

Yeah, or 20s and 30s then throwing it away as England batsmen have done for most of the last year or two.

Breaks the curse with a solid seven.
He's back. In the pavilion.
