although it seems the latest selection policy is to pick 19 year old wozzie spinners named Ashton with little or no FC experience

rofl...I hope he matches his name and can turn a ball...nemo gave a presser yesterday intimating confidence in his selection for T3...I thought boof was simply being nice and giving him a game in the tour match

Re: Will Australia sink as low as the Windies?
Is it true that Australia's decline reflects the decline of the nation. Australia used to be full of real men, rugged, hairy, strong moustaches. Concerned about birds, booze and dogs. David Boon could drink 53 tinnies get off the flight then smash a hundred, Dougie Walters could fart the tune to Waltzing Matilda. Dennis Lillee was 96% body hair.
Now economic prosperity has rendered the Ocker Aussie almost extinct. Michael Clarke bathes every night in coconut oil. Steve Smith moisturises his hands. Your best strike bowler is a vegan. Phil Hughes' favourite film is Miss Congeniality.
What happened to all the rugged men? Dangerous Dave Warner bravely tried to bring back the glory days by growing a moustache, drinking a lot and starting brawls in bars - what happens? Your vain vice-captain, who's hamster ate his homework, tells tales about him, and potentially your spiritual leader is exiled to some god forsaken third world backwater in disgrace.
Make Warner captain, and Mick Dundee should be drafted in as a coach. Back to basics. Any player who can't grow a mo in the next week gets sent home in disgrace.

Timely article in terms of this thread though may be drawing the long bow.

Will Australia sink as low as the Windies?
Sadly, the answer has got to be a resounding yes.
A surfeit of hit n giggle cricket doesn't help their cause ... judging from their "aggression" against being tied down, poor shot selection, lack of variable bowling and overall impatience ... all attributable to T20 s**t ... they haven't a clue about building innings or bowling to a plan.
At least the WIndies have pulled it around in the past couple of years ...

Hard to say; they've certainly had a few bad games but they may not have sunk as low as you'd like to think.Henry wrote:We all knew there would be a decline in Aussie cricket after Mcgrath and Warne retired, but did anyone think they would sink THIS low?

That was when horrie was in charge of selections.Henry wrote:Some of their decisions post the 2010-11 Ashes have been very poor. Dumping Simon Katich was described recently as- "In hindsight, the equivalent of burning a $50 bill to light a cigar."

I'm not sure who horrie actually wanted. Nobody in the tour party, I think.

now, now....Lardy I would like you to name the tests where fleas was a match winner, how many times his turgid tons took so much time we ended up stuck with draws and how many times he ran out Punter and other top order players while saving his own skin.
schoolgirl should not have been selected in the touring party nor fuse...the gcs should have had his cards marked after the Root incident

Re: Will Australia sink as low as the Windies?
agree re Hughes and Warner; well only partly re Warner as he shouldn't have been in the tour party to start with
as for Katich ... he never once cost us a Test win, he saved us from defeat on at least one occasion OTTOMH, and he was a regular valued contributor, as you well know, but he was shabbily treated by selectors, latterly at the request of Clarke.

Katich had a career SR of 49.36.
Yesterday Rogers scored a century at 43.34.
Guess who posted the following:
Rogers is a modest determined bloke...perhaps the selectors will look for a bit of mental toughness in the players they select in future,,,, instead of SGDTs
