Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XI)
Hmm, you are sounding dangerously like a pompous i-Gener, h. The approach that you are bagging is exactly what you and I grew up to, and I dare say we turned out a shitload better than the spoiled tattoo-ed & pierced drivel that the education system is churning out now, with their "you can't impose discipline on students because it's discriminatory" palaver, and "oh dear, my son/daughter is so stressed - the education system is so hard and stressful on youngsters" sookery.horace wrote:... better education outcomes for Oz is improving school attendance via punitive measures on families and truants...
Give yourself an uppercut, man. One of your more poorly considered posts.

so when some nth shore nob takes his kids out of school for an experience in paris you will support fining them...
schools are getting more success in getting kids to stay longer...those that hang on by a fingernail will not enrol iif they are being fined...if you want to push kids into crime Pyne has the recipe...
sure I got flogged at school and for my pains can recite the rhyme of the ancient mariner and recite the times table...I would prefer to leave teaching methods and school engagement policies and practice to eductationalists than to nob pollies...similarly I would prefer nob pollies not decree on the efficacy of various methods of surgery from a basis of abject ignorance..
sure most boomers can recite their times table but remain mathematically enumerate...sure most boomers can recite poetry learned from detention or being beaten, but few are moved by it....

Tenuous at best, complete bullshit at worst.
You fit right into the "let 'em do what ever they like, they'll turn out just fine" but-then-whinge-&-moan-when-they-turn-out-whiney-useless-sooks brigade.
And yet you high five the Chinese for their draconian one-child policy.
[insert "parenting" sledge here]
Hmm, you are all over the place like Midge usually is.

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XI)
good grief....yet more foeign affairs stuff ups from Australia...
China is understandably miffed at the blind support Oz is publicly giving the increasingly bellicose nationalist Japanese govt
and in another spy stuff up the E Timorese are accusing Oz (back in ljh's day) of spying on the ET govt when the off shore gas fields rights were being negotiated...the ET Govt wrote to the ALP govt and got no response - seems the current thickheads are adopting the same position....
The MM's govt seems to have problems with govts led by non white folks...

chinese have ticked Oz embassador off ...bishop says one thing and then another...maybe it is her unforch second name or that she is a worrier that makes her such a dill...but daresay Carr would have done the same...but not publicly rebuke the Chinese....bizarro that we are siding with the uber nationalist regime running Japan these daysembee wrote:China declares airspace defence zone over uninhabited islands

Re: Aus Federal Politics thread (XI)
I think I now have a ready reckoner for how to judge Abbott's foreign policy depending on what action he takes.
Abbott criticises China = stuff-up for upsetting China
Abbott stays silent on China = stuff-up for being craven
Abbott critices Sri Lanka = stuff-up for upsetting Sri Lanka
Abbott stays silent on Sri Lanka = stuff-up for being craven
Abbott refuses to apologise to Indonesia = stuff-up for upsetting Indonesia
Abbott acknowledges spying and apologises = stuff-up for being craven
So in short: Abbott does anything = stuff-up
Abbott criticises China = stuff-up for upsetting China
Abbott stays silent on China = stuff-up for being craven
Abbott critices Sri Lanka = stuff-up for upsetting Sri Lanka
Abbott stays silent on Sri Lanka = stuff-up for being craven
Abbott refuses to apologise to Indonesia = stuff-up for upsetting Indonesia
Abbott acknowledges spying and apologises = stuff-up for being craven
So in short: Abbott does anything = stuff-up

Actually, the whole thing is like a Fairfax v News competing editorial policies. Clearly Abbott knows which side his bread is buttered.

Graincorp is a poorly run organisation. Blocking the sale will not only stop foreign companies from setting prices on Australian wheat but should force Graincorp to get its house in order & fully represent our graingrowers in the international marketplace.JGK wrote:Grain Corp shares fall 25% today because Hockey is Barnaby's Bitch.
