Re: Australian Domestic Season 2013/14 (II)
meanwhile......finally Fink and Hackay get their marching orders
Cricket Victoria react after four straight losses
Quick Single: Bupa Sheffield Shield page
Cricket Victoria chairman Geoff Tamblyn has described the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers recent form as "pathetic" and "lacking heart."
Victorian selectors have reacted brutally to their Bupa Sheffield Shield innings loss to NSW, axing four internationals from their squad to face South Australia.
Australian ODI players Dan Christian, Aaron Finch and Clint McKay as well as recent T20 call-up James Muirhead have all been dumped from the last-placed Bushrangers squad after four straight outright losses.
Finch had one success in those four losses, 97 against South Australia to average 18.1 in eight innings, while Christian has taken just three wickets while conceding 303 runs in the same matches.
Fresh from signing a four-year contract with Victoria, young spinner Muirhead bore the brunt of NSW batsmen in Sydney, going for 61 without taking a wicket off seven overs.
Joining McKay to sit out the trip to Adelaide is Peter Handscomb, who has also struggled for runs at the top of the order.
Taking their place will be spin pair Fawad Ahmed and Jon Holland, quick Jake Reed, Rob Quiney and Michael Hill.
With only a mathematical chance of making the Shield final, Victoria could give Reed - the leading wicket-taker in the state competition with 46 wickets - the chance to make his first-class debut at the Adelaide Oval.
David Hussey, who was twelfth man for the NSW match, has kept his spot in the travelling squad.
"There's all sorts of speculation and arguments as to why some of those things were happening, coming off Twenty20 [Big Bash League], and people worrying about IPL and so forth," Tamblyn told Fairfax media.
"Certainly those things concern us, but until [CV chief executive Tony Dodemaide] and myself have a long chat with both [operations chief Shaun] Graf and [chairman of selectors] Andrew Lynch I think it would be premature to say what the outcomes are.
"I think people have got to take responsibility for their own actions, and pathetic cricket was played. It looked as though it was lacking in heart.
"My role as chairman and the board's role is that at the end of the season we will do a review ... we probably have not recruited as well as we could have recruited, but you franchise people to do a job and sometimes they are going to get it wrong.
"We're not looking for scapegoats, we're looking to the future. This has been a poor year."
Victoria Bushrangers Squad: Wade (C), Ahmed, Boland, Hastings, Hill, J.Holland, Hussey, Maxwell, Quiney, Reed, Stoinis, White
West End Redbacks Squad: Botha(C), Cooper, Ferguson, Head, Klinger, Ludeman, Mennie, Putland, Raphael, Richardson, Sayers, Zampa
Bizarre that Steynless is there as well as NoShow (yes - I know he fluked a few runs agianst the spivs, but should not play red ball cricket)

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2013/14 (II)
looking at the Saffie side reminds me how appalling the state of cricket is there...It is almost English...
any Oz State team that is captained by a right wing Boer who throws instead of bowls is truly mining a new low for Oz domestic cricket.
I always knew that the banniespivs were the nadir...but I am having to adjust the rankings while the contemptible Botha leads SA

Qld still in with a chance.
Man, fk the spivs. They had every match as a home match for the one day series and they still couldn't win.

Dropped in to Bellerive this morning for the first session. Tassie side looks more like a 2nd X1 with Bailey,Doolan, Bird & Butterworth missing. Billies sent Tassie in on a wicket that was doing a bit. Moo just out for 93. Tas 176/4

Re: Australian Domestic Season 2013/14 (II)
Western Australia have named three new faces in their squad for next week’s Toyota Futures League against ACT at Canberra’s Chisholm Oval starting on Monday (7am WST).
WA’s Imparja Cup winning captain Michael Bailey, from Gosnells, along with young wicketkeepers Christian Smith and Josh Inglis have been included in the 12-man squad.
Spinner Michael Beer will captain the side, with the attack led by Nathan Rimmington, Andrew Tye and Joel Paris, the latter subject to a fitness test following a quad injury, with Matt Dixon on standby. Melville spinner Ryan James is selected too.
Batsman Will Bosisto is unavailable due to his attendance at a Cricket Australia leadership program, meaning Bailey will be joined by Tom Beaton, Hilton Cartwright, Luke Towers and John Rogers in the batting line-up.
Wanneroo’s Smith and Joondalup’s Inglis will share the duties behind the stumps, as the selectors look at their wicketkeeper options following the release of Tom Triffitt from his WA contract for disciplinary reasons.
WA Futures coach Geoff Marsh said: "Bailey has been in really good form at First Grade level with two centuries in his past two games.
"He was excellent at the Imparja Cup and was named as the captain of the team of the tournament there, so he warrants selection.”
Bailey has made 552 First Grade runs for Gosnells this season, while he also finished as the leading wicket-taker at last week’s Imparja Cup.
On Smith and Inglis, Marsh said: "We need to look at our wicketkeeper options and both of these youngsters have shown a lot of promise this season.”
Smith, 20, is the third leading run scorer at First Grade level for Wanneroo, with 622 runs, including two hundreds in his past two matches.
Inglis has made 423 runs for Joondalup this season, including 91no against Wanneroo last month. He was named in the Under-19’s Nationals Team of the Championships in December after finishing as the second top scorer.
Beaton’s recall comes with him the equal top scorer at First Grade level with 712 runs, while Marsh said the selectors were excited to see Scarborough medium-fast bowler Tye play four-day cricket.

wow....Klinger going berko, tho admittedly it is against the vix....3 wickets to hastings at least shows the Vix 'attack' as well as its batting is not totally reliant on NoShow...
spivs outcrabbing the wozzarians and the bills and toxics looks an even contest

Tossie tail wagged to finish with 350. New boy Webster dropped Forrest before he had scored. Could be costly. Billies 128/3.
