A comment form a poster on the SA board.

speechless

And on top of that, the majority still voted for stupid. I will have no more sympathy for those suckers living without water and spend their lives protesting against non existent service delivery - but then vote for thugs bloody volunteers. Argh!

Aye, ANC post Mandella are despicable. Bunch of corrupt qunts who want to line their pockets at the expense of the poor, who still seem to be voting for them, the only reason I can see being because they were Mandella's party.

I don't think the outside world understands that. All they see is Mandela and the ANC is Mandela's legacy. Without Mandela's hand on the tiller they have reverted to type. Hell we even see his family trying to rip off the estate.

Maybe you have to live in SA to see the institutionised corruption that is ripping off the country.

However there is hope. The free generation voted for the first time in this election and we saw the beginning of a swing away form the ANC. Also I hear from a very odd source that the ANC started worrying about the 2019 election some time back. They see that as the crunch.

The ANC seems more like Mugabe than Mandela these days.

Obviously this perception is from a considerable distance and may be unjust.

Not that unjust. Fortunately they have never received the 2/3s majority need to change the constitution. However there are concerns as to what will happen if they start losing at the ballot box.

What is the strength and political persuasion of their opposition, though?

The DA is getting there but made a few tactical errors. Perceived as a mainly "white" party it pulled 22% of the vote whilst whites are less than 9% of the population.

no chance of electoral victory any time soon then ... or indeed for as long as they are seen as a 'predominantly white party'

The times they are achanging. The % of votes they achieved showed they were getting votes across the racial divide. And as more and more of the free generation get the vote I can see this accelerating.

The DA already hold the Western Cape and had a string showing in Gauteng.

The. ANC are already worried about the next election.

It's good that you have hope, no matter how misplaced that might be.

Until there is another opposition party, one not seen as having historic ties with the whites, the ANC will win, no matter how poor they are.

It's good that they are changing.

I think 2019 is overly optimistic. Change within 30-40 years sounds more plausible.

Some more from the poster I mentioned before:

I agree with Stu - most black people have no access to tenders and don't get opportunities they didn't work for. Some of us work damn hard to earn what we get. You see some graduates that can't get work and wait on tables while they push on to get accepted into internships - I handed out flyers at robots after graduating - fortunately for me that only lasted 4 months until I got an internship but that was tough - etc. etc...

The change won't be instant but it's gradually happening, when 58 years and older blacks vote DA, you know people are gatvol and change is coming.

I never said they would lose in 2019, but I think they are worried about a significant swing. I think Zuma is on borrowed time. The word I'd that Ramaphosa is the coming man.

Wasn't that much Afrikaans where I was.
