Re: Australia v Pakistan, 1st Test, Brisbane, 15-19 December, 2016
It will be ironic if Pakistan request the extra 30mins to win the match.
I cannot believe what I am seeing.
Still unlikely in all probability.

Elmer and Wade drop tough chances.
And Yasir given but overturned on review.
Has anyone mentioned how grouse Test cricket is?

This was the game that today reminds me of: inexperienced team that nearly made a right balls of it but kept their heads just long & well enough to hang on:

What happened to Thommo in that game - does anyone recall? Looks like he was only on the field for as long as it took to get through his 3.3 overs, plus bat, perhaps with a runner. Two sub catches by one KJ Hughes suggest that Thommo didn't spend much time on the park otherwise.
Wasn't the Turner shoulder-charge incident (about a year earlier, 1976-77 v Pakistan) so it must have been another injury.

I'll see if I can find RS Whitington's book when I get home. Should have some commentary in there.

Great Test cricket. Not suprisingly, team unchanged for Boxing Day.

Same squad. I guess Lyon v Sayers will come up again.

Unlike 74-75, when he did a shoulder playing tennis at Hill-Smith's winery, and 76-77, when his shoulder lost the argument with Alan Turner's scone, this Thommo Adelaide injury (a torn hammy) occurred in the act of bowling. (As far as I can recall, he somehow played the 75=76 Addledville Test v the West Indies in its entirety and bowled 24 overs over the two Windies innings and suffered no injury whatsoever....which was quite a miracle.)

Interesting prospect. I wouldn't mind seeing if Doom can make the transition from Shield to test but i think Lyon is the current weak spot & if we are to believe that CA have abandoned the player rotation policy, he would be the obvious axing with Madman & Tweek to cover the spin option.
Re: Australia v Pakistan, 1st Test, Brisbane, 15-19 December, 2016
If they are going to rest Haze they'll wait to the SCG and maybe play 2 spinners (although in the absence of a Watto/Puddle it is more likely they'll give Travis Head a go at 6 and use him as the second spinner).

Re: Australia v Pakistan, 1st Test, Brisbane, 15-19 December, 2016
They can't use Maddinson as a second spinner - he barely gets a bowl for NSW, and has never looked like taking wickets OR playing a containing role at FC level.
I did wonder if White might get called up to the squad ... home wicket, in form with the bat, can supply some spin overs. But his spin is probably even less practised than Smith's ...
O'Keefe hasn't played FC recently, so he's unlikely to come into calculations if they're going to be consistent with their decision re Shaun Marsh.
I think they'll add Holland and/or Faulkner to the squad.

Who - Skulls and lady?
Decent eff from a disastrous start by the visitors. Can they build on that, or will they revert?
