Now the CoS falls on his sword

"US President Donald Trump has named Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly as his next White House chief of staff, replacing Reince Priebus in a major shake-up of his top team.

Trump thanks Priebus, says they "accomplished a lot together".

Mr Trump made the announcement on Twitter, saying General Kelly was "a great American and a great leader".

The move came a day after new communications director Anthony Scaramucci accused Mr Priebus of leaking information to reporters in a profanity-laced tirade.

In a brief statement to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, Mr Trump said General Kelly would "do a fantastic job" as chief of staff.

"General Kelly has been a star, done an incredible job thus far. Respected by everybody. A great, great American," he said.

Mr Trump thanked Mr Priebus for his service, saying he was "a good man".

I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!

Mr Priebus told CNN he was not asked to resign, but rather offered his resignation on Thursday."

Give 'Lemon' Reince his due...he has climbed higher up the political totem pole than anybody else in history called Rience.

(Still no word on whether Scaramucci will do the Fandango?)

I am at the head of the queue to buy Scary's three volume memoir about his time at the White House. The memoir to be published by All-in and Underhand is provisionally titled, "Ten Days that Shook the World with Laughter". *

* Not to be confused with the book of similar title about the Bolshevik Revolution.

Frank Forde ... PM for a week.

Black Jack had a very brief period at the summit too.

Scarramouche's rise and fall has really been a very minor blip in the context of this administration, which lurches from disaster to disaster as a drunk lurches from bar to bar ... one wonders if he will even be remembered in a year.

Both those blokes might have been PM for five mins each but they were MPs for decades. Also Queensland Senator Glen Steele or Sheales or similar was a Minister in Mal the first's Govt for about the same length of time in the late 70s, before dropping a major racial clanger and getting the DCM forthwith.
.
Peter Reith's first term as an MP also ended before he was sworn in or set foot in the capital, when he won Phil Lynch's by-election very late in 1982 before losing the seat at the 83 general election. Fortunately for Pete, but unfortunately for most of the rest of us, he won it back 18 months later.

After the 1977 election, Malcolm Fraser announced the make-up of the new ministry that he would be recommending to the Governor-General. Sheil was to be Minister for Veterans' Affairs. This announcement was made at 5 p.m. on 19 December 1977. On 20 December he was sworn as a member of the Federal Executive Council, a constitutional pre-requisite for appointment as a minister. That same day, in an interview on ABC Radio, he professed his support for the South African apartheid system, which was very much at odds with the Fraser government’s position. Fraser decided not to proceed with Sheil's appointment to the ministry. In a very rare move, he advised the Governor-General, Sir Zelman Cowen, to terminate Sheil's appointment as an Executive Councillor (such appointments are normally for life). Cowen was required by convention to act on the Prime Minister's advice, and the termination occurred at midday on 21 December.

This was widely described as "the shortest ministerial career in Australia's history". In fact, Sheil was never a minister at all, but he was a member of the Executive Council for two days, during which time he was entitled to be known as "Senator the Hon Glenister Sheil".

The US people must love being "loved"

"North Korea says nuclear weapons only for US.

Defying pressure from new United Nations sanctions, North Korea threatened to use nuclear weapons against the US if militarily provoked and said it would “under no circumstances” negotiate on its nuclear and missile weapons programs.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho on delivered the strongly worded statement to reporters on the sidelines of an Asian regional security conference hours after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson vowed to implement the stiffest sanctions yet imposed on the Pyongyang regime.
...
“The unwise conduct of the US will only speed up its own extinction,” North Korea said in the statement, adding that the US was getting “more frenzied and desperate” instead of learning to coexist with the country.
...
The sanctions are meant to close loopholes that have allowed the rogue regimen to cultivate trade, financing and labour ties, thereby generating revenue to support its nuclear and military programs. The sanctions ban trade in coal, iron and other items with North Korea and bar countries from employing North Korean labourers and entering into joint ventures with Pyongyang.

The sanctions resolution aims to cut a third, or $1 billion, from North Korea’s annual foreign revenue."

I wonder what it will take for the US to actually go in and kick NK's arse??

Donald's dad - Fred - was convicted in 1947 of kkk related crime. Stunned that Zimmy has not appeared here to defend Donnie for his comments on Nazis and white supremacists.

Farkin lol @ Bannon who today described the Nazis as clowns. The sad damn Trump has failed.

Apparently not one white evangelical seppo leader has condemned the lunar right in Charlottesville.

Locally I look forward to any statement from Abbott, Shorten or Erics Anazi condemning Trump for saying white supremacists contain nice people.
