Re: English County Season 2019
Good riddance if so... or good luck finding a D1 county to take him. We’ve got enough tossers with Hales and Duckett, it’s getting like the Newcastle football team of the ‘00s...
I see a Compton debuted for us today... not clear if he’s a part of the illustrious family, but seemingly born in the same corner of Yarpia as Nick...

Sibley carried his bat for 215 today. Are you watching, Ed Smith and Little Jimmy Frodo Tyrion Taylor?

Is see that Kyle Abbott took the best FC match figures since Laker’s match. 17 for 86.

Another century for Sibley, surely he’s on the plane to Snoozia?
Joe Clarke also registered twin tons in the match. Too late to save Notts’ red ball season...

Good grief, beams. TEN defeats in a season?? Is that a record in the two-division era?

I don’t know about the top division, but Leicestershire must have done it in at least one of their winless seasons in the basement...PeterCS wrote:Good grief, beams. TEN defeats in a season?? Is that a record in the two-division era?
Winning the T20 would polish a turd of a season, but doesn’t change the fact that you need to be in the top division for red ball cricket to get the best young talent, and with the advent of the SixteenPointFour16.4 Cup the county white ball game will be diminished in any case.

In answer to the most losses question, the Pants lost 12 in their most recent top flight season. Set for a crack at beating that next year

"Pants" = Danny's boys?
Twelve defeats is mind-boggling. Even Lancs can't usually manage that degree of combined ineptitude and capitulation. (The Lancs problem is generally a resounding flop when a win is most needed, and predicted. See recent QF of the 50 overs. After breezing through the divisional games.)

That used to be Notts in the T20 QFs... inevitably when I had tickets for Finals Day.

Notts with the half-time advantage over the Pears... we had them seven down for double figures before Whiteley posed us a few conundrums late on. Still, catching was flawless and 147 is more than gettable.

And somehow Notts contrive to lose from a won position. Heads lost all around in the middle, brainless running and everything else, and the failure to run out Worcs’ last man off the final ball earlier on eventually proved the difference.
Time for a mass clearout I think. This side will challenge Leics for the Div 2 wooden spoon next season.

And seriously, how is Peter Moores still being talked about as a potential international coach? Cricket’s answer to Steve McClaren.

No luck for the East Midlands today as the Chavs thrash Direbyshire.
Their first ever T20 meeting with Worcs (and first final) coming up.

So it will be a double for either the Chavs or the boys from Ciderabad... advantage with Essex in the long format, particularly given the weather forecast this week.

It’s a Chavtastic double then, as the rain scuppers Somerset. I think that’s their sixth runners-up finish without ever winning it, putting them level with Jimmy White.
