Football 2020-21 Season

With compromised Comps across the Globe, who do we think will win the major national comps as well as the Champs League and the Copa?

Retaining the Premier League is very tough, if City sign a decent centre-back I think they might turn the tables on Liverpool. But the chasing pack might be a bit closer as well. United’s youngsters should continue to develop, and Chelsea with the addition of Werner and Ziyech will be interesting.

Hard to predict the European trophy winners before this season’s have even been decided!

Who changed the Title of this thread?

I assume the Head Cheese did it, h.

He/she has form with standardising and editing the titles of Test threads so they all look the same (Home team v Away team, Test, Venue, Match dates).

I remember the C4 days when we had thread titles like ***Yarpies v Snoozers, 7th JAMODI, Official Match Thread*** (the multiple asterisks were compulsory!)

Maybe The Cheese is a neat freak??

Please change my thread title back to the original. Everyone instantly knows what "Soccer" is, but "Football" is a generic term applicable to various games.

'Football' here means the Oz game.

The Flaming Bails thread to discuss international football and, in particular, the English Premier League, has been traditionally named the "Football" thread.

Australian football code threads are all usually given their own names i.e. AFL, Rugby League and Rugby.

While most posters here these days are Australian, this remains an international forum. As such the international name for the round ball game is Football. Threads to discuss this game will remain titled "Football".

I reserve the right to edit any title that I feel is in error, non-standard, confusing, offensive or otherwise unsuitable.

AFL is not the game. It is the leading league of football.

By your logic you might as well call the Soccer thread the EPL. At least it would not be a confusing misnomer.

So you go to the "Football" thread before the "AFL" thread looking for thoughts on current Aussie Rules matters?? I didn't think so.

Methinks there are many more important issues in the world atm than a thread title in an alas obscure cricket forum.

American football is often referred to as “NFL” internationally, certainly when referring to the professional game specifically. Guess the same’s probably true of Aussie No Rules (if anyone’s even interested in it elsewhere )

Pre Covid I would 'go to the football' or 'go to the footy' not 'go to the AFL'. I do not know what Leeeg fans say when they go to a match. Who does, given very few people actually attend leeeg games.

This is not an Aussie forum. Only Oceania countries and Yanks call the international football game soccer. The rest see the game as Football.

And the point I was making, h, was not what you refer to your favourite winter game as, but what thread you go to to discuss matters re: AFL.
