Without humour to take the edge of the issue we often shun it and pretend it isn't happening instead of confronting it.

PearlJ's Mugabe joke reminds me of the old Andy Capp cartoon of a coach giving his pre-game speech.

If you get that joke, you have already inherently acknowledged that raping someone is worse than drinking their beer, otherwise it doesn't work. - It's the clear gulf in priorities which makes it clear no-one is belittling rape - just as no one is belittling the dreadful situation in Zimbabwe.
