How long are Indians going to keep harping on a World Cup victory 25 years ago and keep celebrating it? FFS, why can't people learn to keep history where it is and learn to be less emotional about the past? How many times is India going to gloat About the fact that it has just one and only fine trophy from that two and half decades in the past?

Arguably, if India had lost that match, JAMODIs wouldn't have become prevalent in the subcontinent and India might have developed into the best Test team in the world.

Thats debatable, JGK. I think India's win at Lord's on that fateful day acted as a boost to cricket as a game in India, not just in ODIs but as a sport in general which includes test cricket as well.Arguably, if India had lost that match, JAMODIs wouldn't have become prevalent in the subcontinent and India might have developed into the best Test team in the world.

If that innings is more important than VVS Laxmann's effort at Calcutta in 2001 then I think I'll give the game away.

i dont know if its terribly important. if we had lost that match we would have not won the world cup. but that innings did not win us the world cup either
there is no really 'most important innings' in indian cricket history. every great innings has been a marker, all building on to another one

i can see 25 years down the line yuvraj's innings against england in the t20 world cup being hailed as indian cricket's greatest innings. that would be ironic

One could endlessly argue about others being more important but without that innings India would've been out of WC'83. IMO WC'83 win was far more greater than that epic test series win over Australia in '01. And hence to me Kapil's 175* was the most important innings played by an Indian.

You say 2 different things here.i dont know if its terribly important. if we had lost that match we would have not won the world cup.
How couldn't it be terribly important innings if without it we won't have won the WC? Thats quite contradictory.

You got to see the impact of WC'83 win. IMO the impact of WC'83 win over Indian psyche was far far greater than that test series win over Australia which is fair enough.
