Re: Nothing about the football?
Let's face it if a coach like Capello still has our team playing like a rabble at the time he leaves the job - I don't hold out much hope for the next bloke

Capello has never managed English players before, and has previously mostly taken over successful teams with vast resources to lure the world's top players that he wanted. He's still a damn good manager - but I think these factors mean he isn't going to take to the job like a duck to water. There' too many other factors.
His natural Italian caution will build a solid defence and restrict the flair, perfect for winning leagues - but not so good for cup competitions. Capello's England will not be too much fun to watch, but will be hard to beat. They will qualify for the World Cup in first place and get out of their group. Then probably get knocked out. Just like Sven.
I still think Martin O'Neill would have been perfect. All his career he's been making the likes of Matty Elliott, Emile Heskey, Neil Lennon, Gareth Barry, etc look like world beaters. He builds strong teams who play for each other and are tactically very astute. He has a fantastic record in cup competitions, and doesn't suffer fools gladly while often getting the best out of awkward characters. The fact that Barwick, Rcihards and that set of incompetent, bed-wetting, chinless wonders selected the clueless McLaren ahead of him shows just how competent the people running English football are.

He still plays centre back when the need arises, what I meant to say is that he's not one of those all action up and down the pitch players, the sort of player needed to cover Gerrard in a 4-4-2 when he's off tear arsing all over the pitch. Like I said, I like Huddlestone, just like I liked Gascoigne, Hoddle and going back a bit the great Tony Currie. Alas, it's just not the English way.
All the great foreign national and european sides that play a supposedly talented passenger like Pirlo, Zidane, Riquelme, or even Hagi and Valderrama usually play a fluid 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation and surround their star playmaker with 'water carriers' of the calibre of Gattusso, De Rossi, Makelele, Mascheranas and the like. We've never played like that and probably never will, heartbreaking isn't it?
It's true that Huddlestone isn't the most mobile. You don't particularly have to be to play the role he's hoping to play. You can be just as good if you know how to read the game and your positioning.
I disagree that England have never played destroyers and creators together in central midfield. What was Ince, if not a water-carrier? He played with Scholes. Going further back, what about Stiles and Charlton?
