Best first tons?
Obvious one- KP at the Oval, 2005.
Mark Waugh's against England in 1991 was arguably his second best ton after the one he made against South Africa in 1997.

Re: Best first tons?
Well Sobers 365* is the highest first ton, followed by Simmo's 311, then Tip Foster's 287 (in his debut) and then Lara's 277.

Re: Best first tons?
Greg Chappell, aged 22, in his debut test coming in at 5/107 and putting on 200 odd with Redders, which is still the sixth wicket record partnership for that venue, when we were badly under the pump against John Snow et al.
He took about forty minutes to get off the mark but made his second fifty in almost even time.
Mark Waugh might have looked elegant at the Adelaide Oval, they waxed lyrical about this at the time, but the attack was relatively ordinary and the pitch very flat. Aged 25 he was already a seasoned cricketer.

For about 27 hours Tubby's first ton was the talk of Australia - then SRW scored his, and MARK TAYLOR went back to being Mark Who.

Re: Best first tons?
Michael Clarke's first ton pretty much laid th foundation for the "Final Frontier" win.
SRW's against England in 1989.
Slater's in 1993 was pretty special.

Re: Best first tons?
Of course, Bannerman's first ton is still the grand-daddy of all debut tons in so far as it's legend goes.
Ignoring the fact that it was in the first ever test, if you look at the scores in the match, the quality of the England attack, the conditions and the speed of scoring, it is undoubtedly one of the great test match innings ever.

Re: Best first tons?
Was Ross Taylor's at Old Trafford his first? That was pretty good, even if it did come in a losing cause.
Not of the same calibre of some of the others mentioned here, but I'm struggling to think of m
more and have nothing better to do with myself.
