Butterworth
Is LB an outside chance for an Ashes berth?
He's young, he's been taking a lot of wickets recently, he swings the ball a lot (handy in England), he bats well, and he has a great temperament (eg the Shield Final two seasons ago) ... if we are going to send an all-rounder to England, might he yet sneak in ahead of Macdonald, Hopes, Symonds, Watson, Noffke?
OK, it's a 'lardy in pumping up the tyres of a Tasmanian' shocker, but he seems to have all the attributes, in particular, that swinging ball ...

Still not convinced we need a dedicated all rounder, especially as we don't actually have one.

3 quicks and a spinner...that is all we need ...that and 6 specialist bats and a keeper who catches catches, doesn't cheat and lets through barely any byes

If it was a once off it would be a burn ...it happens so often it's more like a rash
Knowles also hit a sozzie in the head at Bunbury ...hope he continues on like that ...They have left him out of the Shield game though

Re: Butterworth
Butterworth continues to shine for Tasmania ... now opening the bowling, swings the ball, makes runs, and is tough as nails. Ran through the wozzies yesterday like a dose of salmonella ...
WC 2011?
His mate James Faulkner isn't too shabby either.

No, I hadn't seen it. Seems early. Typical anti-Tozzie bias ...

Blame the Tozzie. Typical.
And come to think of it, when was the last time a Northern Territorian got a fair crack of the whip? Marto apart, that is.

Re: Butterworth
Butters has 23 wickets this season at an average of 17...more wickets than Cameron in fact. I had him as an option in my Test team for Perth but it seems the selectors have lost his number.
Re: Butterworth
Butterworth is a 125kph trundler. I think Andrew McDonald established pretty emphatically that bits and pieces medium pacers with moderate batting ability aren't successful at Test level.

His bowling stats are similar to McDonald's. We all know about his bowling.

Henry ... perhaps you should confine your opinions to players you've seen. LB can touch 140 ... and swing the ball either way. One to watch. Chris Swan from Queensland is another ... but probably too old now.

I have seen him. He was nowhere near 140. Unless Warney also lent him his Lamborghini?

You must have had your video on slow-mo. Butters took 4/59 to wrap up the game against WA today making it 7 for the match. He is now second on the Shield bowling table with 26 at an average of 16.
125kph trundlers in England may be able to return stats like that but not in Australia.
Re: Butterworth
I'll admit I haven't seen him since the Shield final in 2007. Has he put on a yard of pace since then?
Seemed to have more promise as a batsman than as a bowler back then.

I did mention that he was now opening the bowling. He's still a youngster, but he's a fair bit stronger than when he started.

Re: Butterworth
Given the improvement in Harris over the last 2 years, I am not about to suggest that Butters is "just" a good Shield player. I haven't seen enough of him tbh. But his stats this year are excellent.
