Re: Butterworth
lardbucket wrote:It's a strange gig, this county cricket. You can have blokes like Law, Moody, and Di Venuto making runs for years, whereas Greg Chappell (as I recall) really struggled (apart from his leg spin).
Early form on strange wickets is no real guide to a player's quality. How he adapts to them will be interesting.
County crickets standard fluctuates from year to year even, since the 4 day game was introduced its much higher.
To be frank though, he just looked like a 78mph English seamer

Indeed, the squinty eyed ones were out-saged by his Mudgeness.
(The lad is now guaranteed a 5-fer against his next opponents)

Re: Butterworth
Joe Dawes was OK.
Butterworth has loads more talent than Dawes, and a lot more time to realise it.

Are you sure you're not just giving him +40% brownie points because he's a Tasser?

he gets some bonus for that, but most of my praise is justified, based on observations and a hope that he will continue to develop

Wiki reckons about £2.80 per pound or $1.43 per kilo in Aus at current exchange rate.

Re: Butterworth
Well, this Butterworth chap, eh?
Scotland cruising to victory, let's lob on our overseas player they say. Gets carted for 15 runs and Northants are in the driving seat of this Noddy car. I owe him a couple of beers.
Is he the Tasmanian bowling equivalent of Bruce Francis?

Re: Butterworth
Ask Lardy. The nearest I've got to him is 45 miles away. As per the stipulations in the injuction.

Smited by James fracking Middlebrook of all people. I'm beginning to think they've pulled a fast one on Scotland and sent them a local Tassie club bowler instead.

Aye could be! TBH, I hadn't seen his face before the Leics match... but his pedestrian dobbers matched up to descriptions on here.
Re: Butterworth
He wasn't bad for Norwich in the 90's... didn't do much for us, although we got a certain Stuart Pearce in addition as part of the deal!

Re: Butterworth
Well I was wrong anyway.... he went for 16 in his last over. I think he's got a 'when in Scotland' mentality.
