they wont be playing against the best bowlers or batsmen so kinda defeats the purpose. anyways with the pak & aussie series coming up the main men need to be rested

But both Zaheer and Sreesanth have been rested for a series recently, why rest them again.

He is an opener in a side which has Akash Chopra, Gambhir and Sehwag. Hasn't played that many matches really. Should really have been picked.

He played in the last challenger series, didn't he?
A good young prospect needs to be given chances, from their performances and talent Chopra and Gambhir shouldn't open in Test cricket. Dhawan needs to be given a chance because India is still looking for a solid opening pair.

It was strange because a lot of duds have been picked in the sides, surely people like Dhawan and Dhiman could also have been picked. I mean, Satbhai, etc. Why?

He has been chosen for the Ranji team of Delhi, which will be captained by sehwag and thevice captain would be Gambhir.

Re: The Indian Cricket thread
Maybe he needs to change teams. If Sehwag gets ignored by the selectors for the next two tours, I can't see him get a game for Delhi in front of Gambhir, Chopra and Sehwag, unless they play him in the middle order.

Dhawan and Uthappa formed a prolific opening partnership in under 19's cricket about 3 years back.

And I've always liked Dhawan more than Uthappa when I've seen both play together.

Uthappa dynamic as he is worries me with his IFFP, Involuntary Front Foot Plonking. That is very likely to get exploited in the longer versions of the game.

best thing about uthappa is his calmness under pressure (esp given how young he is). future india odi captain if he can keep up his batting and not go the kaif way. cant see him as a test player though

Re: The Indian Cricket thread
*bump*
I know hes had a fantastic year so far so this may sound harsh but does anyone really think Karthik is India's long term solution to the age old opener problem?
Even with Jaffer I have my doubts.
It won't happen but I'd love to see Dravid open with Laxman coming in at 3.
I wonder what the stats are with regard to Dravid coming into bat during the first 10 overs when an opener falls....I'd imagine this has been the case for the majority of his tests.
So effectively he's been playing as de-facto opener anyway.

Nah, I don't think Karthik is the long term solution. Jaffer I'm not sure of but I doubt he'll be either.
However, there are a few good openers sitting out in domestic cricket, so they'll be on their toes.

Re: The Indian Cricket thread
Well I think the next test is make or break for Karthik with Sehwag probably taking his place for the third test should Dinesh fail.
Jaffer has been impressive this match esp the way he played Shoaib today.
And surprise surprise Dravid comes into bat after the first over so he's pretty much played this test as an opener again.
