Re: The Football Thread - 09/10
It would also be good for England if Rooney & Owen can form some sort of partnership.

Indeed. I'm liking this move more and more by the minute actually.Makaveli wrote:It would also be good for England if Rooney & Owen can form some sort of partnership.

You make yourself sound a little ignorant there JKL. His pace has been gone for years yet his goalscoring record has remained very good.JKLever wrote:Owen is shot. No pace. Goner. Game over. Finito. Move on...

Even I'd slum it for five years in Manchester for £150,000 per week.

The winner is still Winston Bogarde who joined Chelsea on about £50,000 per week, only for the Blues to change managers almost straight away.
Bogarde was told he had no future at the club and should start looking around for new employers.
He said, "Nope. I've got a four year contract worth £10 million. I'll stay, thanks."
"But you'll only be playing for the reserves..."
"Don't care."
"For four years of your career?"
"Easy money."

But to avoid egregious obloquy, he changed his name to Dirk.

Ian McParland might as well resign now - Sven will be manager within a year. I suppose Notts County's epic £50k bid for Jack Lester convinced Sven of their ambition.

You Pies!
Our new owners are apparently worth £1.5bn.
Seem intent on spending a fair wedge of that on Notts too.
Will probably all end in tears, but it's going to be a fun ride along the way in the meantime.
Saying no more than that, I'll leave the hysteria (and barbed comments) to others.

Maybe Notts County are going to do a Posh and climb right up the leagues now. I was skeptical when we were taken over by Darragh Macanthony 3 years ago. We were mid table league 2 with that idiot Barry Fry having sold London Road to a greedy property developer. We were playing hoof ball with Keith Alexander as manager and watching Posh was horrible tbh.
Now we have 2 successive promotions, play awesome football, have one of the best young managers in the business and our first team has an average age of 23. We are playing Derby in the opening match of the Championship season on Saturday. Can't wait.
As you say, it may all end in tears but the last two seasons have been unbefugginlievable. If you go through something even half as good you are onto a winner.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10
Neat, tidy passer (not as good as Alonso, I don't think) with a great shot from range. Bit Italian - more style than substance.
Don't think he's got the best injury record, but he's a good quality replacement, I'd say.

Ta Dello
Given that Alonso only had one year left it sounds like getting 30M for him and buying the italian for 20M was good business.
He might get a shock going from living in Rome to living in Liverpool though

Yes you are bored. lol i don't think you will see anymore transfers at United as for Arsenal they need to make some signings or say goodbye to CL football next season. The biggest surprise to me is Chelsea who usually spend big but have been pretty quiet. I think Liverpool were stupid let someone like Alonso go, prob the best player in his position in this world, well thats what you get for treating him so poorly at the start of last season with the whole Barry saga.

RB: Sanga/Eboue/Hoyte
LB: Clichy/Gibbs/Traore
CB: Gallas/Vermaelen/Djourou/Silvestre/Song/Senderos
If they sell Senderos, they'll try and bring in another CB.
Gallas and Silvestre probably only have one more season in them (for Arsenal anyway), so they have to balance the here and now with planning for the future - they've got high hopes for Havard Nordtveit, who is coming through and should be pushing for a first team place in a couple of seasons.
