I was trying to respond to another thread, but sprayed it like Steve Harmison.

I don't need to know about Harmy's personal life. Especially when I'm feeling fragile.

Well, I invoke the anti-Nurenberg defence.

Fair enough. Tired of the King's Indian?
The best of those was Sam Beckett's "Endon Affence" - extremely aggressive start, petering out into indecision.

Ruy Lopez has always worked best for me. I also favour the Sicilian defence, and often try to fianchetto when I can.

Re: Do not respond to this thread
Speaking of which, I heard on the wireless this morning that Kasparov and Karpov are to renew their combat. I remember being enthralled back in the 80s - well, certainly by the second of their confrontations which was won by Kasparov. If memory serves, the first went on for the best part of a year and ended in stalemate.

Re: Do not respond to this thread
Pretty sure that's exactly my first two moves whenever I played, but I never played a genius/anyone with fool knowledge, so I never got mated. Now I know.
"The same basic mating pattern can also occur later in the game."
arousing.
