Zat, you don't know what those peoples experiences have been like. It's the same the world over for people coming into a new country, it happens here, there are people who resent foreigners. They maybe ignorant, they maybe in the minority but they tend to be loud and cruel. If you happen to experience that kind of treatment it would prejudice your views of that country.

No I don't know. But FFS, to appear on a nationally televised talent quest program, then to say to the host - one of the most-loved personailities in the country FWIW - that you don't like being there, and to go on about all the shortcomings of a place? FMD. If you have to live somewhere, and you don't like it, you make a f*cking effort, you don't just mope around like some sort of sad sack. Act like a miserable prick and you'll get treated like one. Have a go at creating a better life and things will improve. For Christ's sake, I'vehad to live in some pretty god-forsaken parts of Australia due to work, and didn't have a great time in some of them, but I got on with the job and made sure my leisure time was something I enjoyed.

I know exactly what it can be like in this country, I live in town with a huge British Asian and immigrant population and we have some extremely racist people living here. How can you make your leisure-time good when you get spat at, sworn at or at the very best made to feel extremely unwanted? you've work in some shitty places? At least you were working and are white man.

I remember Aussie diplomats in Port Moresby who'd only go out once a week in a tax-payer funded minivan with private security guards and bitch about the place.

I had a great social life up there because I got to know the locals and didn't wrap myself in cotton wool.

Had a great time in the deep, deep south of the US once. Turned up to a diner looking for a coffee and the place was closed. As I was walking away the owner (a little old lady) came rushing out apologising but they were having a county council meeting. Invited me in and fed me bottomless cups of coffee and cherry pie (I shit you not). Wasn't charged for anything and was invited to a BBQ that night and given a bed.
