I Googled it. The Beatles, ay? Any good - did they amount to anything?

Re: Time for a music thread
By an odd co-incidence the first 007 movie was also released 50 years ago today.

Someone here used to say that form was temporary, and class was permanent.
Apparently not, if the class is posted on Youtube.

Re: Time for a music thread
Does anyone else here still buy 'albums' (CDs or iTunes albums)?
Regardless, what music have people bought recently, and why?
Below are my most recent 'album' purchases, ignoring a few isolated singles ... the album purchases have mostly been made to replace vinyl no longer easily played, or just to augment my own 'collection' which is mainly eclectic guitar-based blues and jazz:
Bettye LaVette: Interpretations (The British Rock Songbook)
Dire Straits: Making Movies
Dire Straits: Communiqué
Bettye Levette and Carol Fran: Bluesoul Belles
Al Green: Al Green (Greatest Hits)
Anita O'Day: Anita
Anita O'Day: Anita Sings The Most
Anita O'Day: The Lady Is A Tramp
Anita O'Day: An Evening With Anita O'Day
Led Zeppelin: II
Led Zeppelin: III
Led Zeppelin: Presence
Davy Graham: Folk Blues and Beyond
Lee Ritenour: Captain Fingers
Larry Carlton: Larry Carlton
Richard & Linda Thompson: Pour Down Like Silver
Vashti Bunyan: Just Another Diamond Day

And just finished listening to Neil Young & Crazy Horse's latest "Psychedelic Pill"...
Brilliant as always, you can really smell the Horse...
Walk Like A Giant, a 16 minute epic a real highlight.

Re: Time for a music thread
I can't believe they've done this . . . http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/x-factor/9550051/Gary-Barlow-on-updated-album-of-Jeff-Waynes-The-War-of-the-Worlds.html
Liam Neeson in place of Richard Burton?
I've been listening to the original in the car recently. Brought back so many memories from when I was younger. What a masterpiece.

Aye, pretty shite cheers man. What about yourself? How's getting back into work after skiving for an age?

I forgot that absolute abomination that is 'the radio' until I've been in the main office at this job. It's an amalgamation of about 10 songs in one entire day that the play over and over - the worst bit being they're all the wankest of wank.

They all are. Even Absolute, with its "no repeat guarantee" - they just play the same songs day after day. No one really pays any attention to lyrics as long as it "sounds happy". They just like the simplicity and easy listening of 4:4 and verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-chorus-end, all with an auto-tuned mannequin wailing away.
I once played this song at work. They thought it was a really nice, chilled out, happy piano ballad, and thought it made a good change from the "depressing" rock that I used to play.
They weren't actually listening because it's about the raping of a child and the loss of innocence. What a happy, uplifting song, eh?!
Most people aren't actually music fans.

I'm sure Jimmy S. would have done, if they'd ever made it onto TOTP

Holiday seems an age away...and work sucks (of course). Only got domestic holidays for the next few years; then Japan in 2016, and another big one in 2018 is the plan atm...Brass Monkey wrote:Aye, pretty shite cheers man. What about yourself? How's getting back into work after skiving for an age?
We're in the design stage of building a house (exciting), I'm studying again (not so exciting), and we're seeing Billy Bragg (awesome) tonight so can't complain...
