Re: Major League Baseball playoffs
Verlander is one impressive pitcher. Had to snigger that the Yankees' starting pitcher was Phil Hughes. Pulled a heart muscle during the game.

Amazingly, Yankees have a chance to go tie or go ahead with 2 outs in the 9th. However, they are relying on Robinson Cano who has been hitless in 29 at bats now.
ie they've got NF chance.

FMD, Cano singles.
Raul up now. Surely he can't do it again?

They'll win the WS on Verlander's broad shoulders.

A single pitcher won't win a World Series but all of their starting pitchers are very good.

Tigers sweep the Yankees to take the American League Pennant. 8-1 in the 4th game. Yankees only managed 6 runs in 4 games. Coke avenges being let go by Yankees.

Aye. And 5 of those came in the 9th innings.
There will be repercussions in NY I think. Great to make the ALCS but what a pathetic way to go. A-Rod might have played his last game as a Yankee.

With the Tigers winning in 4, it is conceivable that Verlander could pitch in 3 of the 7 games in the WS if needed. Certainly in 2 of the first 4.

Outstanding pitching by Detroit. I'm not a student of the game as you and Wally are, but to a casual observer, Verlander, Coke and others work on the mound was outstanding. Their batting was tidy as well.
Can the Cards match them? Or the Giants, if they manage to get up?

The Giants probably have the pitching to match although their starters aren't in the best of form. St Louis is all round solid and after last year they probably think they can do anything.
Will probably come down to a few hits. Cabrera and Fielder I think would edge to the Tigers.

Re: Major League Baseball playoffs
Tim Lincecum looks about 19. And pitched like shit today.
What's all the hype about Buster Posey? Every time he steps up to the plate the commentators rave about his form.

Re: Major League Baseball playoffs
I think Posey won the NL batting title this year (ie he had the highest batting average in the league).
Although actually he didn't. His teammate Melky Cabrera technically won it but was suspended for taking drugs 2/3 of the way through the season. Amazingly, this didn't actually disqualify Cabrera from winning the the title because he had sufficient plate appearances but he did the right thing and withdrew himself from being available for it.
As for Lincecum - a couple of years ago he was probably the best pitcher in baseball. He's had a couple of injuries and hasn't really come back.

Looking more and more like a Cards v Tigers WS.
I can't recall any World Series where the two teams won less than 90 games in the regular season.

Lohse allows a Giants 1st innings run. He had the ball from a scratchy hit but couldn't get a grip on it to throw it to home plate. Giants 1-0

Cain dodges a bullet with Cards runners on 2nd and 3rd. Good hit by Lohse was snatched up high by the shortstop. Still 1-0 Giants.

Re: Major League Baseball playoffs
Wow, what a crappy effort by Kozma at shortstop. Bases loaded and Pence gets one of the handle that should have been a routine catch but Kozma went the wrong way. Then an outfield fumble allowed all three runners home. All over - Giants 5-0, bottom of the 3rd. This is turning into a hiding.

Re: Major League Baseball playoffs
Giants may not beat Boston's post-season 23-7 record win margin over Cleveland in Game 4 of the '99 playoffs but they are demoralising the Cards ATM.
