Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
TBH i am not too comfortable with Chris Gayle being the captain but then again there aren't too many options.

This is test cricket right?
2-0 or 3-0 Aus, Windies don't have the bowling to do much against Aus away from home though I expect at least one really good bowling performance from them in the series.

Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
WI - 2-1
My Prediction...
Australia to obliterate WI in the opening match. Ponting all smiles in the after match interview. Test two rolls onto Adelaide. Australia rack up 445 with Ponting scoring 110. WI to get gunned out cheaply (171) with Chanderpaul scoring a valuable 59 with a little help from the lower order. Australia enforce the follow on, Chanderpaul scores 281 in the second dig and Bravo scores 180 as WI accumulate 657 in the second innings on a slow low Adelaide deck. Benn/Gayle combine efforts and knock Australia over for 212, to win the second Test.
Third and final test moves to Perth. Australia once again will dominate the first innings, I suspect a double hundred from Katich atleast once. Tight Windie bowling keeps Australia contained. WI surprise everyone, Sarwan will come to the party in the third test and aid Barath and Shiv in racking up 501 for WI in the first innings. West Indies to win the 3rd test by 2 wickets.

It's a good thing that a series could never play out in that manner.

QMY! BOWDEN! JONES!
Yes, that's correct. Gwoody, not really. I'm sure it was my past approach to posting which didn't get recognised. Just coming in from a different angle now...

Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
I predict the Aussie team will monster the first test but at the same time will reach the critical point of self-love and spontaneously dissolve into a mass of writhing lusty flesh, forever pleasuring itself like a pornographic Ouroborus.
This will allow the Windies to nab the next two tests...although Ponting will courageously free himself from the mound of flesh and though naked, covered in sexual fluids and gibbering things about Watson's biceps and Nathan Bracken's golden flowing locks will single handedly run 'em close.

Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
Potentially they are an amazing combination but that is pretty much it, potential.
Edwards has been really good over the last 18 months but hardly ever gets the figures he deserves through dropped catches and general misfortune (7 catches dropped of him in Barbados, 5 at Lords etc). Another thing is he gets injured too often.
Taylor is as good as anybody on his day (Sabina Park massacre, Champions Trophy hatrick, SL at home in 2008) but again he gets injured too often and has the annoying habit of announcing himself fit for selection before bowling at about 75% intensity. It is time for someone of his talent to be delivering 5/12 like spells more consistently.
Roach has all the tools to be among the most devastating fast bowlers in Test cricket (Pace like fiyah, toe crushing yorkers, swing both ways with old and new ball, skiddy bouncer etc). But he is untested against class opposition and can experience run up problems.
My prediction is 2-1 Australia because I think Roach and Taylor will fire in 1 test and bowl them out cheaply but I can't see them doing it more than once. Whereas Australia will chip away at our talented batting lineup and get them out for decent but not intimidating totals.

Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
lardbucket wrote:Now that the WICB has come up with whatever compromise has been agreed upon, and something close tto the best Windian team available has been sent, how will they fare in the series beginning in JUST 3 WEEKS (thank fark) against an Australian side that is still clearly rebuilding after major personnel changes over the last 3 years, with ageing and injured players at the top of the order and behind the stumps, and a seemingly endless recycling of the keepers and bowlers? Might they actually win?
AUSTRALIAN 12 (likely, with 'shadow' players bracketed):
Simon Katich
Shane Watson (Chris Rogers, Phil Hughes, Phil Jaques)
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke (erk - Brad Hodge)
Mike Hussey
Marcus North
Brad Haddin (Tim Paine, Chris Hartley, Graham Manou, Luke Ronchi, Matthew Wade)
Jason Krejza / Nathan Hauritz / Jon Holland / Beau Casson / Chris Simpson / even Bryce McGain
Mitchell Johnson
Peter Siddle
Ben Hilfenhaus
Stuart Clark
I see this year as an excellent opportunity for Australia to examine its spin prospects closely, as the West Indies (barring Lara) have traditionally struggled against spin in recent years. My preference would be for Krejza in the Tests and perhaps Hauritz or even someone like Simpson in the ODIs. Depending on the nature of the injuries to and recovery rate of Haddin and Paine, it may also be an opportunity to examine Ronchi at the top level, especially whilst he seems to be in cracking batting form, although i think any of the other keepers named above would do a better job behind the stumps than Haddin, and bat adequately. Amongst the batsmen, Katich and Hussey would seem to be nearing (<2 years) the end of their careers; but barring injury I suspect both will see out this summer and be fairly desperate to hang on until the return Ashes next year. The faster bowlers are on a real merry-go-round at present ... the four I've listed, all Ashes tourists, are probably the best of the bunch; though there is a pack just behind them (Noffke, Magoffin, Dorey, Geeves, young Walter from Queensland, Bollinger, McKay, and a host of random Dubbers).
With the Australian team looking less established than it has for some time, I fancy the West Indians to accredit themeselves fairly well if they can unite themselves behind Gayle, and (a big if) if Gayle, Sarwan, and Chanderpaul can perform to their ability.
My tip? A 2-1 series result, and I'm not at all sure which way.
NB skully.
Of course ... if Pup remains hampered by his chronic shagger's back; there is an opportunity for Rogers to open and for Watson to slide down the order.

Yoiks. The original was a positively Vikas-esque post from you, lardy. Usually a man of a few well chosen words.
But all well said, nonetheless.

I note that MEW and the bowlologist plumbed for Crazy on Inside BJ, for an extended run in the Aus side this summer, although they were unsure that any spinner would be played in T1.

Re: WI v Australia - series predictions
It's intersting that everyone sees Gump as little chance. He has by far the best record (average-wise) of the 5 most likely candidates, 94 Test wickets at under 24. Bung and Milf are over 30 and Midge and Cot are just under.
