2nd tier development is always grouse - as long as they go with the younger dudes, not the also-rans not in the running for Test selection.

The first game starts on 30 July in Brisbane; something to look forward to; it may yet be an important tune-up for some players before this year's Tests.

Nobody in the Oz squad has played more than three Tests, and none in the last three years. A handful have played ODI.

I'm with you, but Townsville does not like to be left out!

(I lived in Cairns for 13 years and still return frequently)

Should have his file marked NTPFAA. Was he trying to play a reverse dink to get off the mark?

Rod Marsh didn't mince his words when talking about Maxwell's dropping-

"If you want to play cricket for Australia, you should be consistent. If you are batsman, you should get consistent runs. If you are a bowler, you should get consistent wickets, or bowl well," Marsh said. "As far as I am concerned, he has had a lot of chances. It got to that stage - we couldn't go on any longer. Glenn has too many games where he doesn't contribute with the bat."

Sometimes I wish England's selectors were this direct and honest.

Marsh's words suggest that they've called his bluff on his shithouse attitude.

Will be interesting to see if he now spits the dummy and becomes a T20 mercenarylike a bunch of the West Indians.

I can see both sides of the argument. He is extremely inconsistent, but on the other hand, he can and DOES win matches for Australia. Without his innings of 46 not out in the Caribbean last month, Aus wouldn't have made the final of the tri series.

There is a difference between a match winner and a random generator.

Who is replacing Maxwell?

He is a batsman capable of scoring a run a ball ton

He bowls just good enough to get away with 10 overs as the fifth bowler

He uses a SGW strategy well

He is a very good fielder

He's a cocksmack

He manages to get out in ridiculous ways at stupid times

Not sure the fixturing of the Matador Cup is going to help his path back in. But (for better or worse) he should play more Shield cricket.

Now if only he'd insist on traditional wickets for the shield and compulsory spin camps for the batsmen.
