Reading about big Vince I remembered he was actually selected for this tour.

South Africa squad to tour Australia in 1971-72 Ali Bacher (capt), Eddie Barlow*, Hylton Ackerman, Dassie Biggs, Grahame Chevalier, Peter de Vaal, Lee Irvine, Denis Lindsay, Graeme Pollock, Peter Pollock, Mike Proctor, Clive Rice, Barry Richards, Pat Trimborn, Vince van der Bijl.

* Eddie Barlow subsequently withdrew for business reasons and was replaced by Arthur Short.

Don't tell me, let me guess - the question mark on the end was a typo.

Was wondering if someone could come up with a better one.

Got my head scratching and found this England team picked to tour India 1939/40. The tour was cancelled due to the bit of unpleasentness in Europe at the time:

Alber Holmes (skipper)
Hugh Bartlett
JM Brocklebank
Billy Griffith
RHC Human
Bob Wyatt
Emrys Davies
Tom Dollery
Harold Gimblett
James Langridge
John Langridge
Gerald Mobey
Morris Nichols
John Parker
Peter Smith
Arthur Wellard
Lt. Col. Claude Rubie (Manager)

God knows how they picked that lot - Roger Human played much of his f/c career at Worcester: batting average 24, bowling average 38.

Sounds similar to the crowd picked to go to Bangaland Very Happy

With all due respect the MCC has a lot to answer for,

Fark. I'm glad we played the World XI instead. And still got beat 2-1, after DKL had smashed 'em in T2 and the first half of T3. Then GStAS and RGP stepped up. Shocked
