No?
Okay I will.
They were shit.
Yep. They're so easy to play against for a team with half-decent organisation (which rules out the majority of the Premier League, which is why they're third).
Just fill up the middle of the park. Make them go wide. They can't do it. No-one in the side can cross the ball and even if they could, no-one in the side can head it. They can't hurt you from the wings. So shepherd them out there. Easy.
I really think Wenger's decision to go with 4-5-1 this season has been a failure. They've looked the most one-dimensional I think I've ever seen them under him.
Against the other teams in the top five: P:8, W:1, D:1, L:6
Not that Man City were owt special. That's a lot of money they've spent to park the bus in front of the goal and grimly grind out a draw.
Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
what an awful game.
3 DM's today for city. fair play, a draw was a decent result for them.
a real end of season feel to the game just like wigan last week.
wgaf, 3rd is sealed...over to wenger to do what he has to do this summer.

you're right that noone can cross. a proper winger would be good.
its technically 4-3-3 but more often than not it does degenerate into a 4-5-1. he changed the formation to give cesc more freedom, which has worked, and to optimise use of the squad (no wingers, only one DM, at least 6 creative midfielders) but it hasnt quite worked during the second half of the season.

So now officially a two-horse race. Scum on 79, Chelsea 77.
Manure - Sunderland away and Stoke at home
Chelsea - Stoke at home, Liverpool away and Wigan at home
You'd have to assume Scum will finish on 85, and Chelsea should handle Stoke and Wigan, so they need to beat Scousers away to win the title. Can't see it.
Another idiotic jig from that miserable Scottish qunt coming up. [sigh]

Thats got to be photoshopped FFS...
Meanwhile, Chelski back to the top of the table it seems.
Liverpool away and Wigan at home to come. Man U have Sunderland away and Stoke at home on the last day.
Liverpool v Chelsea is the title decider then.

Still a chance that the title could go down to goal difference, or even goals scored it's that close.

Although I would prefer Chelski over United to win the league, it will be funny as f*ck if the scousers end up winning the title for United .

I can see Liverpool rolling over for Chelsea - no Torres, a potential Europa Cup final as a priority and 4th place looking extremely unlikely with Man City, Villa and Spurs all ahead with 2 / 3 games to play and guarenteed further points as they play each other.
If Hull manage to beat them on the final game of the season Liverpool might even finish 8th below Everton.

They HAVE to roll over for Chelsea. It's the decent thing to do.

Meanwhile, Kalou snares a hattrick as Chelsea go to a 4-0 lead over Stoke.

Funny player Kalou, some days he's really ordinary and others sublime. Gave Inter Milan real problems and should have won a penalty that would have swung the first leg.
With him, Drogba, the Toure's and a few other decent players Ivory Coast might be a decent bet to reach the semi finals of the World Cup.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
Is this the 3rd time they've hit 7 at home this season? Villa, Sunderland and Stoke are usually among the more organised defences in the league too. On their day Chelsea are unstoppable - but I think they lack the character / team unity they had under Mourinho so tend to inexplicably slip up now and again.
They've lost 6 games this season in the Premier League, which most years would rule you out of the title race.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
Third time this year they've hit seven in the league, they've had a 5-0 and a 4-1 as well.
I still think they will lose at Anfield and hand the title to United though.

The saving grace for Man U may be that Benitez doesn't like Chelsea much and might inspire the team to rain on their parade.
If there's one team you would back to get a dull 0-0 draw it would be Liverpool as well.
But Liverpool really do have little to play for.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
They're only two points off fourth place, and goal difference effectively gives them an extra half a point - yes they've played a game more, but if matches between the other contenders end in draws they have every chance if they can win their last two games. And Hull is a formality so it's all about the Chelsea match.Gary 111 wrote:But Liverpool really do have little to play for.
If they're mathematically still in it on the last day I still expect their rivals to capitulate and let them back in, just like Spurs did to Arsenal in the "lasagne-gate" finale a few years ago.

I think the matches on Saturday will influence the Liverpool-Chelsea game on Sunday.
If Spurs beat Bolton on Saturday, as you would expect them to (though its not a gimme) they would only need to beat either Man City or Burnley to finish above Liverpool.
If Villa and Man City draw it will help Liverpool, but if Villa win they would only need to beat Blackburn at home to finish above Liverpool. If Man City win they would be 4 points ahead of Liverpool with Spurs and West Ham still to play.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
Doubt it. Champions League is more important to them than their rivalry with United.
Even if it's an outside chance, they've still got a shot at finishing 4th and therefore hanging onto a few of their better players.

Re: The Football Thread - 09/10 (III)
Meh, 7-0 victory over a sorry Stoke will mean nowt unless the StamBridgers can squeak a victory to shut the Kop up.
