"Punter wins 1.4 million pounds from 2-pound bet
EXTER, England (AP) - A British horse racing punter has won 1.4 million pounds ($2.3 million) after placing a bet of two pounds ($3).
Heating engineer Steve Whiteley hit the jackpot in his five-race accumulator at Exter racecourse on Tuesday.
The 61-year-old Whiteley says "I'm not a horse racing man. I only go once or twice a year."
The final horse of the accumulator was 12-1 shot Lupita. Earlier victories came from Black Phantom (12-1), Ammunition (16-1), Mr Bennett (16-1) and Lundy Sky (5-1).
Jayne Amor of the Tote bookmaker says Whiteley "came to us after four races to check if he had been reading his ticket correctly."

Lordy, that's a tidy little investment return.
2 x 12 x 16 x 16 x 5 x 12 = 368640
Two things
1. Poor reporting - it wasn't an accumulator it was a pool bet - like our quaddie. He was the only one who got the 5 so he got the whole pool.
2. You'd make a sh!t accountant. If it was an accumulator he would win $586,092, not $368,640

Yeah I picked up on him starting at 2 rather than three. As for sh1t accountant, it would depend on who he was accounting for. Bondy or Skase probably would've given him a bonus.

2 pounds ...Not the badly converted $3
What's the maths for the accumulator?
I cant believe the bookies would pay more than odds

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
England still use odds rather than prices, so 12-1 pays $13, 16-1 $17 etc

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
went to Flemington on Saturday
Black Caviar is unbelievable...The VRC handed copies of the print...there was the finishing post and this massive mare held under a tight rein by Nolen and then daylight...Nolen only let her go for a furlong and she nearly broke the course record carrying 58.5kg
Sounds like BC will only run in weight for age in future so instead of giving weight to the horses she flogged on Saturday she will meet them all on better than 4-6Kg...
One more run in Melbourne (william read) before she goes to spiv central...I urge all spivs with an interest n thoroughbreds to go

It's only going to get easier for her from now on (until she goes o/s anyway).

I think we all want to see her go o/s.
Given how the Aust horses went in the HK race a few months ago, and how she has basically donkey licked all of them, you'd think she go alright.

What didn't evryone else back everything but BC at really sexy odds figuring she wasn't that good? On top of the Broncos game I had a really great weekend.

HK is the only o/s destination on the cards. He wants to take her to Brisbane over the Winter.

or Dubai - But either won't be until next year anyway
It's not worth taking a mare to England (unless you just want an excuse to go to Ascot)

Hay List is better than all those sprinters that have gone over to England and won (with the exception of Miss Andretti) and she has made him look stupid. She would smash them

I heard on the radio yesterday there was something like a $1000000 bonus for a horse winning in three different countries that the owners were considering chasing ...wasnt listening properly ...and the blokes spruiking it may also have no clue either

Yeah, it's that world sprint challenge thing and it has to be one of those races. Takeover Target went for it a few years back but didn't win one here ffs (won in UK and Japan) and then had to win in Honkers as the last chance but had to be pulled out when he had a drug irregularity and Joe spat the dummy.

Not that I'm a fan of the nags, but I happened upon Black Caviar's race at Moonee Valley on Foxy (accidentally pressed down from the News Channel on the remote instead of up, and end up on the Donkey Channel ) last night and it bolted in for no. 11 straight.horace wrote:Black Caviar is unbelievable...

Re: The Horse Racing Thread
Black Caviar is the No 1 rated horse in the world ATM on Timeform with So You Think No 2. And that was before yesterday's win. If she wins the TJ she might well be the highest ever rated Aust horse (which is Tulloch closely followed by Kingston Town). Ironically, both of those champions were trained by TJ.

It's a big night in Dubai tonight but Tattsbet won't be operating on the Dubai World Cup or the Sheemah Classic because they take place after 2am Queensland time. Guess I will have to put money in my Centrebet account if I want to bet on them.
I'm hoping Premio Loco can salute in the Godolphin Mile.

JJ The Jet Plane shows that some Saffies are capable of winning big events, namely the Al Quoz Sprint over 5 furlongs. God bless him. Wish the price was a bit better.

Rocket Man just won the Golden Shaheen, the first of the Group Ones. He ran second in the same event last year. He is Singapore's champion sprinter & like all good sprinters, Australian-bred.
