Re: All time Pak XI
Hehehe. the Great Warthog. What a ledg.
"It's Packer here," his boss announced in a husky growl. "I don't have any comment on your latest exploit - just one question. Was she a good f---?"
An astounded Hill replied: "Mr Packer, I really wouldn't know."
"In that case, son," Packer snapped, "you've missed out both ways."
I've heard it several times but still worth a chuckle.

I missed Fitz's commentary career in its entirety - she never uttered a word any time I was watching. By all accounts I was lucky.
The closest Nein have come to repeating the experiment was Nicholas I suppose....not any great improvement there....
You will be pleased to know that Kate is a member of this forum. She posts as "Red" because of the colour of her hair.
She has nice tits?

Re: All time Pak XI
Akhtar needs to be in for fazal Mahmood because Akhtar could run through any side his own on a FLAT surface while Fazal from what i have read needed help from the pitch

Yep, PP, put him for the first test and Mahmood can play the rest of the series after Akhtar breaks down , gets liposuction, gential warts or has drug trouble . . .

This is a hypothetical team, PP . . . note how Bradman et al make the Oz alltime XI?

Re: All time Pak XI
Fazal was a class bowler and helped put Pak cricket on the map(ALL PAK fans should know about Oval 54) but given a flat track i am guessing that it will be very hard for him to rip through a quality batting line up like Aus or india.

That's why he should be left as the back up for when Akhtar hypothetically can't play . . .

Agree Imran at 6 looks odd.
Imran averaged 61 batting at 6 (20 tests).
lardbucket wrote:Asif Iqbal has probably been left out because he was born in India.
Hanif was also born in India.
I suppose if you're getting picky so were Fazal and Zaheer.
The team in Cricinfo looks pretty good. Wasim Bari is Pakistan's best ever keeper so I would include him. I would prefer Mushtaq to Qadir. Qadir was no good outside of Pakistan.

Re: All time Pak XI
imran's high average usually came about due to loads of not-outs, esp in high-scoring draws. not sure you can depend on him to get you 40-50 runs every innings, more like 20-30
with a bowling attack of imran, wasim, waqar and a spinner you dont really need imran to bat at 6. besides imran's high batting average came about when he dramatically reduced his bowling work-load as captain. he is much more valuable as a bowler, so rather not have him sacrifice any of that

So, bat him at 7 ...
Only a pace-obsessed blind man would include Shoaib. I suppose it's as good as saying you don't need another fast bowler after Wasim, Waqar, and Imran.

The cricinfo team looks excellent to me, except the choice of Latif perhaps. Wasim was decent enough with the bat down the order and I'd still have liked the security of perhaps Asif Iqbal at 6, but that bowling line-up is jaw-dropping. Don't really think they'd need their batsmen much.

Qadir was by far the greatest spinner of the 80s decade

which is the worst decade ever for quality spinners. ravi shastri was the second highest wicket-taker ffs
saqi did better in a decade with higher batting averages

Yeah, I'd go with Saqlain too.
But Qadir has this mythical stature with some fans (and himself).

Re: All time Pak XI
mushy was better than saqlain who was more of a threat in odi. imo.
id be tempted to have shoaib in. you can afford him as part of a 4 man pace attack, especially given the quality of the other 3. and you can afford to have a 5 man attack when imran and wasim are two of them.
the batting is weak though going by ATXI standards.
w/o taking the thread too off topic and i know its been said before, but a team consisting of indian batsmen and pakistani pace bowlers would be up there with aus/wi/eng/sa.

probably because you are too young to have seen him bowl...
From what i read(NOT seen) Qadir wasn't just a very good bowler he was a GREAT bowler.

No need for Shoiab in that team. If anything you could play a second spinner or a spinning allrounder like Mankad. My first picked spinner would probably be Chandra but I concede that it is a big field of worthy candidates. Also, Miandad should be there ahead of Dravid.
I'd also think about some of the earlier greats ahead of Viru - like Hanif or Merchent etc.
