Interesting that Cricinfo has now profiled 6 teams and ignored India.

The XI
Saeed Anwar
Hanif Mohammad
Zaheer Abbas
Javed Miandad
Inzamam-ul-Haq
Imran Khan
Rashid Latif
Wasim Akram
Fazal Mahmood
Abdul Qadir
Waqar Younis
Bowling looks about right (and it is outstanding). I can't agree with Latif over Bari who Rod Marsh thought was just about as good as Knott and Taylor.
Batting looks weak compared to what Aust, WI and England could put together. In any case, I'd have MoYo or Majid Khan over Z who would have been a sitting duck at 3 against the best opening bowlers from the WI, Aust, England and Saf.

Agreed. Imran at 6 looks like a bit of a cop out.

And Rashid Latif? [Snorfle] Give the gloves to Javed and get some non-racist in there.

Re: All time Pak XI
Majid Khan or Asif Iqbal at 6 for me, Imran Khan at 7, leave out Fazal Mahmood unless we're playing on coir matting, and I'd have Wasim Bari batting at XI. If you've got Wasim, Waqar, and Imran, you don't need another pace bowler, especially with Qadir in the side. I don't think you could leave Zaheer out ... a brilliant batsman, and well worth a place despite the frequently aired jibes about his occasional difficulties against real pace.

Aye, Asif Iqbal was a legend and a master at batting with the tail. Majid was always like Mark Waugh - looked elegant but got out softly a lot just when a classic innings was unfolding.

Although Majid did play some gutsy helmetless hooking innings against DK Lillee, too. respect.

Re: All time Pak XI
Give that four-eyed FTB Zaheer the big A and slot Asif Iqbal (who batted with the tail better than anybody else around at the time) into no 5.
Agree Imran at 6 looks odd.

Asif Iqbal has probably been left out because he was born in India.

Aye, Zaheer was the original FTB, and such a soft qunt when the short quick stuff came his way. I remember when Gabba Dan had him hopping backwards at the WACA before getting caught behind wafting at a short wide one.

Some of the quickest non-West Indian bowling ever that arvo. DKL was determined to bowl quicker than the other young coves in the team.JGK wrote:Perth 1983 - good times...

Aye - twas his swangsong series. DKL is probably lucky Gabba Dan got injured at the Gabba because he might have been dropped for the spinners for the last tests.
Imagine DKLs career ending with him being dropped for Tom Hogan or Greg Matthews FFS.

It was actually the 2nd dig that Mocca had Abbas caught behind waving at one from square leg.

Zaheer was Pak's on-field captain for most of 83-84 with injury forcing Imran into a kind od Davis Cup capotaincy role. He skived off the one-day series (featuring Oz and guess who else?), and wrote a newspaper article bagging anything that moved in that Pak team, from safely at home in Karachi.

You can imagine that Gabba Dan at about 6"4' with that high arm action and the middle leg line would have been ZA's worst nightmare (with the possible exception of Colin Croft) on that pitch.

Aye, the humiliation. As it was, he got the opportunity at the SCG to finish on the same number of dismissals as his great mate Bacchus.JGK wrote:Aye - twas his swangsong series.
