So a focus on bringing more home-grown talent to the top may have helped?

That's my point we were producing fantastic players during that period and still won jack sh!t - didn't even qualify.

i could write an essay about whats wrong with our football and it begins on technical ability and the way kids are taught from age 10-11 up.

Martin O'Neill has just resigned from Villa, apparently.
Probably in no small part owing to having his best players sold from under his nose..

Never rated O'Neill .... coupled to the fact that he's a worse whinger than Wenger and the Jock combined.

The Villa chairman Lerner must be one of the most patient of chairmen in the EPL - a Seppo who hardly ever misses a Villa game ... He's sat patiently for four years whilst O'Neill's dicked around, rising twice to challenge the top 4 each February before dramatically collapsing in a heap down to to 6th or 7th place by season's end .... and that was TWO seasons on the bounce '08 and '09.

O'Neill = All blow - no show.

Sorry JKL, I misconstrued what you were saying.
So it's a long-term malaise in need of a long-term solution?

Or you could say that the chairman failed to provide him with the funds to build a squad capable of lasting the pace or of holding onto his best players, failing to understand that you have to speculate to accumulate in this league and O'Neill realised that the team had hit a ceiling with 6th place and couldn't go any further whoever was in charge, and losing more players would only see them slide down the table.

I know there's a risk of ending up like Leeds or Portsmouth but that's the gamble you have to take if you want to get to the top.

PMSL at the howler by Scouser keeper Reina, bumbling the ball into his own net to give the Arse a valuable point.

For a thuggish scouser, Stevie G sure gets some leniency. His challenge was far worse than Cole's yet he just gets a yellow and but Cole gets red

Lulz, just seen the Spurs score v Young Boys of Bern tonight.....

According to someone who has been watching it these commentary gems really did happen.

Talking about Spurs reaction when the draw was announced

"Spurs fans would have been licking their lips at the thought of Young Boys!"

After Spuds got a goal back to make it 3-1

"it's common knowledge that young boys dont keep clean sheets"

Old Harold Kyool has his knickers in a twist at the moment about Robbie Slater alleging (in a newspaper article) that a senior Aus player told Harry over dinner to "fark orf" out of the team as he was a has-been. Now threatening legal action against the bubbleheaded Slater.

It's a bit damning when the ruling body describes it as a cat-fight.

Harry came off looking like a self-righteous, petulant, chip on his should sook and Slater is a just a lightweight who has been trying to embiggen himself by writing controversial articles and ends up just looking like a dick

All that's true but he was the most talented footballer this country has produced by some margin. All the non-contribution and his sh!tfulness since leaving Leeds has been a result of injury.

But there's always been that promise that once his body came good he would come back and be our saviour.

However, all that crap bagging the coach for not playing him against the Krautz is nonense. He'd played less than an hour of soccer for the last 6months leading up to that so he was hardly going to make a difference. His rustiness in the shorttime he played in the game after showed it was just journos (and other nongs) taking the chance to stab Pim in the back cos he was a bit of a qunt
