And a good finish by them too ... all in all, a very good effort.

Yep, certainly in the series.Invader Zim wrote:Good start for India.
7th consecutive win for India on this ground. Thrice against Zims, twice against Pak, once each against Aus and SL. Its been 20 years since India last lost a test at Kotla and that was against all conquering WI, who chased down highest total (276) ever chased on this ground.

Yep, it certainly was with everyone contributing his bit in this test.HH_pink wrote:And a good finish by them too ... all in all, a very good effort.
If Kumble and Ganguly were the star bowlers, VVS, Jaffer, Dravid, Dhoni, Ganguly and Tendulkar batted atleast once in this test.

I read somewhere that Zaheer (35 wickets in 7 tests at 21-odd) is 2nd highest wicket taker in the year 2007, only behind Steyn (39 wickets in 6 tests @ 14-odd).
Sounds quite surprising, especially considering its an Indian seamer we're talking about.

Not really, but Pak's results ever since he took over as Pak's coach have indeed been shocking for Pak.embee wrote:Sack Lawson ...
Only positive things he has to show is a meaningless ODI series win against SL at Abu Dhabi earlier this year and journey to Twenty20 WC final.
On the other hand, twin series losses against SA at home would certainly go against him, as would ODI series loss against India.
I think PCB has appointed him for atleast an year.

Kumble declared MoM.
He couldn't possibly have hoped for a better start to his captaincy career.

Is it really misty there, or does my TV screen need a clean?

It remained hazy for all 5 days in Delhi. Its actually a combination of both fog and pollution.

Sami has to go. I cant believe they're still persisting with him. He just wasn't meant to take Test wickets. Kaneria flatters to deceive as well. Rehman should replace him, imo.
Also, I think Afridi should be brought back into the Test team. Maybe they should even make him captain. At least he provides an x factor for Pakistan. I think you'll find his statistics for his last 10 Tests are excellent.
Im still not sure about Misbah. Something's not right there. Cool composure transforms into complete lunacy within the space of a few deliveries. It's a really bizarre mix. Very Pakistan.

misbah's judgement, especially under pressure, is very questionable. he just has a brain freeze every so often.
akhtar apart the pak attack doesnt look menacing. will gul be fit for the next test?
im all for low scoring matches as they are often more exciting but this test lacked something. there weren't any real stand out performances. hopefully kolkata wont disappoint, it rarely does.
just noticed zaheer had identical figures (2-45) in both innings - rare occurence?

...well of course Glawson is hopeless and will have dire consequences for Pak cricket...but he should not be sacked...after all, if he was he would probably come back to Australia

Patel was very average this test but maybe its a good thing RP and Sree are out so at least he can get 2/3 consecutive matches to see if his fitness holds up ahead of this aussie tour.
Its better he break down or lose it against an average Pak side than him do it against the aussies in their own back yard.
I wonder should India go 2-0 up in this series, whether they experiment with the side in the third test (maybe rest zaheer and bring in pathan?)

Okay, I take it from you Pak's results ever since him at helm are brilliant.
And had you bothered to read my full post I nowhere casted aspersions on him. I merely said that Pak's results under him are shocking which IMO they're.

Sami's bowling average (49.64) in tests is closest to 50-run mark than it ever was in his entire test career.Henry wrote:Sami has to go. I cant believe they're still persisting with him. He just wasn't meant to take Test wickets.
I think he is capable of taking it above 50 if he is given a chance in the next test. Wonder if he'll then be the proud possessor of the worst ever bowling average for someone who has played as many as 30-odd tests.

I just checked the stats and he is at 8th place in that illustrious list, but 6/8 are out and out batsmen. So only Tapash Baisya (59.36) of Bangladesh is ahead of him in crapness stakes.

Usual suspects have indeed been found out in this tricky 4th innings target.Josh Carney wrote:Tricky 4 th inning target for India on the cards. The usual suspects will be tested again, not that the selectors would be taking note.
Selectors please take note of that.
PS: How good it would be if you say such things prior to every such run chase India has to make. May be your anti-Tendulkar ramblings are good for India.
