Highest partnership for Pakistan 4th wicket in an ODI at The Oval beating Mohsin Khan & Imran Khan's 51 against the Windies here in 1983 WC.

Hardly Broad/Trott-esque is it!

If Pakistan win their score of 241 will be the 3rd lowest score successfully defended in an ODI at The Oval next to England's 229-8 v. India in July 2002 and South Africa's 225-7 v. England in May 1999.

Not sure about the batting really, after this pair we're into the bits and pieces players. Even if there's probably not much to choose between numbers 6-10 in terms of what they might be able to contribute, it feels like we're a specialist batsman short.

What is it with these Akmals? They both bat like loons, they both have extremely punchable faces, and they both keep wicket!

Tho - if you look with both eyes - he contributed more with the bat than most above him.

Morgan-Wright partnership 8 short of record England 6th wicket partnership in an ODI at The Oval - 106 v.India in 2007 by Owais Shah and...Luke Wright.

Looks as if Wright is going to have to be the saviour here unless Swann comes in and hits 6 sixes.

6th 'fifer' in an ODI at The Oval and first by a Pakistani bowler (previous best - Asif Iqbal's 4-56 v. the Windies in 1979 WC). Last instance was 5-41 by the much-neglected Samit Patel against the Saffies here in 2008. He would have been useful here tonight. Let's hope the selectors won't overlook him for the WC - even if they do have to pack a few more roly-poly puddings.

Gul's 6-42 the best ever analysis in an ODI at The Oval passing Ronnie Irani's 5-26 v. India in 2002. First '6-fer' by a Pakistani bowler since Afridi's 6-38 against Oz in Dubai in April last year. 2nd best analysis by a Pakistani bowler in England only beaten by Waqar Younis' 7-36 at Headingley in June 2001. 13th '6-fer' by a Pakistani bowler in ODIs. Lucky for some.

That was some spell of bowling, to keep Pakistan in the series - still as I said, we were probably a specialist batsman light and without one of the top 5 batting through we couldn't get to what should never have been a defendable total. I know Wright did his job as the wickets fell around him but it just felt like the tail started very early.

Useful corrective to the absurd hype surrounding England as well as a welcome boost to Pakistani team morale and that of all their supporters. After a good start I thought the bowlers let Pakistan off the hook and allowed them to post a total which, while modest, proved eminently defensible. The England batting once again proved vulnerable to the moving ball in a magnificent spell by Umar Gul who turned the game around single-handed. The England batting fell victim to their old habit of inconsistency. Despite the fact that 3 batsmen scored 68.88% of the runs required (and 76.15% of England's actual total) England still finished 23 runs short.

Worst performance at The Oval by England since their defeat by South Africa in the 1999 WC which cost Alec Stewart the England captaincy.

Few points about the match

1- D/N cricket is not fair and can only work in Australia.
2- Pakistan can lose SUPEREMELY talented fast bowlers like Aamer and Asif yet fast bowling will never be a major problem.
3- Doctrove is Kamran Akmal of umpiring.

Aye, well played Pakistan - especially Umar Gul who plugged away after a poor first over to rattle up his six-fer.

Having said that, the England batting above and below Morgan and Wright (bar Strauss) were inept and total sh!t. We missed Colly's anchorman role ...

However .... Gul's bowling was definitely top drawer swing bowling at its best ....

Hmmmmm. funny you should say that ....

The one "suspicious" stroke in the entire match was Morgan's when he clipped it long and high and straight down the throat of deep mid wicket (like he was targeting him) off a crap Gul loosener, after said batsman was motoring along comfortably at 67.....

Then, even more suspiciously, and right on cue, the collapse of 5 wickets for 17 runs followed .... Suspect

The News of the Screws have an insider visiting Morgan's hotel room now, even as we speak .... serious bit of totty, big tits, nice tan, hot to trot .....

And on that note .......as Zebedeee would say ...It's time for bed ... Good Night !!

England's wickets had 'Pakistan' written all over them.
Most of the batsmen were bowled or LBW by quick swinging balls NONE more comprehensive than Trott of Shoaib.

It's time for Yardy to pack his bags. If he doesn't keep a low economy rate he offers nothing whatsoever. How the ****** they justify him batting at number 6 is beyond me, he's only ever scored more than 13 runs twice.

Went out with England tottering 5 down but looks like we got in a position to win only for Gul to wreck the bottom order!

Good game, at least we now have a series on our hands...
