Re: The Commonwealth Games
Actually a few of our golds have been Bradburys including the two in the gym tonight. Still it's about time this country benefitted from choking.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
A good example of how first impressions can deceive.
The British (in this case, English) gymnast Nile Wilson. I must admit I hadn't heard of him before. (And I further admit Gymnastics only rarely feature on TV, or in my awareness.)
First impression the other day: a cocky, strutting showoff (the last of those terms is the most wounding if you come from the North of England), gesticulating at the crowd, etc. Ugh.
But those are the displays of a young man coming into the prime of his gymnastics career. The excess of adrenaline of a champion at the top of his game. The point being: 1) he shows a handsome generosity towards fellow athletes and competitors; 2) he comes across in interview (once the lion roar of performing adrenaline in each contest is over) almost as humble, certainly modest.
So, my impressions changed through 180 degrees. Not only a champ (3 golds, 2 silvers), but a good Northern lad to boot.

Swimming complete with Aus taking 28 of the 50 Gold Medals on offer in the Pool.
Hard to judge from the Comm games , but the Jappie coach seems to have made a difference.

How big of a swimming superstar might Ariarne Titmus become?
Also interesting to note how much chat there was about "culture change" by the commentators and team members. Seems to have helped.

Indeed Skully the Culture change that has been mentioned , seems to be paying dividends. It will be interesting to see how it continues at the World Short course championship at the end of the Year.
As for Ariarne Titmus , 17yo and 3 Medals from the event, great way to announce yourself at a International level.

There is a tug of war between Taswegia and Qld about who owns her. Her father used to read the news in the Apple Isle.
As for her career, it's a great start, but it will be interesting to see how she fares against decent opposition.

Born in Tassie, extended family on both sides all Tassies, schooled locally, competed locally until there was nobody local who could compete with her, moved to Banjoville to experience more competition and be coached with other National squad members.
Banjos have had her amongst them for 2 years.

So she'd be eligible for Qld State of Origin under the Inglis clause.

Wow! Expected a bit of a reaction.
Like QLD needs to claim extra swimmers. Lots of chips on this thread from a shitload of postcodes that don't start with a 4.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
Geez, I thought we were shit at Track & Field. At most Comm Games the Poms seem to swamp us.
But tonight we've won the Mens High Jump (Li'l Koo jumped off his tits), the Mens Shot Put (Quinella), Ladies Javelin (Quinella), Isis Holt's Cerebral Palsy Gold in the 100m, and Frayne is battling for the Gold in the Long Jump. All very exciting.
We are going OK in the Diving and Rhythmic Gymnastics as well.

Frayne got pipped by a CG record jump from the world champion. Must admit the cerebral palsy event seemed a bit uneven with some competitors barely able to stand up. Some of the para events have been a bit like that with only five or so competing in the swimming and mainly Aussies.
Starc jumped very well to win the gold. Can't believe how biased Dave Culbert is. During the javelin event he was openly willing athletes from other countries to throw badly.
Must admit the track events are the most enjoyable, but even the field events are so much more convincing that subjective individual competition like diving.

Nice one L'il Koo. If he can repeat that in Tokyo he'll be close to a medal.
