Some useful performances in the pool.

Oui, but hardly surprising because if you watch the news reports on this, there is absolutely no other country competing.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
Was surprised neither Charmers, nor McEvoy won the mens 100 freestyle. According to all the previews today and this evening, they were the only two in the race.
Charmers does appear to be labouring a bit and perhaps slightly below his best.

Huzzah. When I was staying in Malawi a few years ago I went to a Netball fundraiser. The locals absolutely love it. The oncourt celebration after that win is nothing compared to what will be going on in Malawi

Wish they'd show clay target shooting instead of a replay of a walking race.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
British swimmers impressing all round... a long way from the days of the Sydney, or was it Athens, Olympics where they came home without a medal and some said they were “just there for the party”. Adam Peaty seems to be leading the way for plenty of others to follow.
Athletics starting today, I wonder who the new names to watch in the sprints will be - I know this doesn’t always attract the biggest names but a chance for people to put a marker down for the post-Bolt era. I think I heard Yohan Blake is competing but he’s not done much for a few years.

The loss means the Kiwis now have to beat England in pool play to be assured of a place in the top four, and a shot at the play-offs.
Malawi had previously lost to Uganda and at one stage the kiwis were up by ten.
Meanwhile, the Aussie men's 200 metres freestyle relay won with the jaded Chalmers again part of the team. Gibraltar was lapped. Not sure how they gained a berth in the final as there were only five teams in it and one would have thought there would be a mandatory qualifying time.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
I missed the story about Kerri Pottharst referring to Caribbean beach volleyball players as "looking like human lamingtons" when their sweaty bodies were covered in sand.
PMSL. But naturally the PC brigade have arced up, calling for her to be sacked.
For anyone unfamiliar, these are lamingtons (chocolate covered sponge cake sprinkled with coconut):

Blake misses gold in the men's 100, while a Trinidadian wins the women's blue ribbon event which was their first ever on the track.

Re: The Commonwealth Games
Big evening for SAf with 3 gold in the pool and a quinella in the Men's 100m track.
Still, Aus is going OK with 106 medals (39g, 33s, 34b).
