India- Where are the crowds?
Hardly anyone at the cricket OR the Commonwealth Games. Where is everyone? Is it ticket prices? Or over-zealous security?

Re: India- Where are the crowds?
Well as an Indian you should care TO. These games are a chance for India to show itself on the world stage as an emerging superpower capable of becoming one of the world's top three most powerful economies.
And the BCCI scheduled the test at Mohali knowing full well there would be hardly any people there to watch it. All the more reason to hate them.

Re: India- Where are the crowds?
india will still become one of the top 3 economies in a decade or so
but indians dont really love sports that much yet. thats the sad truth. it would be a disaster if a country like india which wins a token bronze or silver at best gets to host something like the olympics

Yeah, for a nation of 1.1 billion, India's record at the olympics is atrocious.

There still should have been attendance, given the hype the CWG had.

Neither the Test series nor the CG are done and dusted in a few short hours.
Neither the Test series nor the CG are loaded to the brim with people being paid loads of money to prostitute their talent and ability.
Neither the Test series nor the CG offer free Ritalin to the ADHD-types upon entry.

I don't think the Indians esp of the Northern or Western variety are seriously capable of organizing any sporting event. Nor do they understand the utility of sports in character building as it is very few over there have any character left. Sorry to generalize but it is a sad fact that somehow validates itself frequently. They are spoiling the party for everyone i'm afraid.
If anyone has noticed almost all successful organization of sporting events and most sporting stars in India have come from Southern or in rare instances from the Eastern region. As these are the only places with an inkling of sporting passion.

Rubbish generalisation Bucky. Probably true from an organisational perspective where the South and West are ahead. But check the medal tally and you will see how many winners are from the North.

Josh, it's not worth trying reason with Bucks. He'd argue about the colour of orange juice.

I read somewhere in the Guardian comments that there were apparently 16000 people in the ground. Not great but more than i thought.

The crowds weren't that disgraceful on Sat and Sun and the last day. But still pretty much disappointing compared to what we normally had. Problem of giving a small town too much cricket.

Crowds at the CWG have gone up too. They had 30,000 at the India-Pak hockey do or die game.
