Would Border/Taylor/SWaugh get better performances out of the present Aus team than Ponting? Most people would say yes.

I'd also believe other contemporary captains like Strauss/Smith/Dhoni would have done much better than Ponting with the same team.

Anyone think there is any hint in those lists of an increasing tendency for Australia failing to go on to cement wins from a good position, or even failing to fight back from a bad situation, under Ponting's leadership than the leadership of his immediate 2 - 3 predecessors?

It is not just about first innings leads or deficits. Progressively over the last ten years Australia have found it difficult to close the opposition out after having them 6-7 down. Have not researched the numbers intuitively it feels that oppositions have scored more for the last 4 wickets against the Aussies in comparison to the nineties.
