At the moment India is a long way ahead in the test rankings but is not indisputably the best test nation. If they win in SA, which will be a seminal moment for them, they certainly will be.
The 2010 FB award for "STATING THE BLEEDING OBVIOUS" GOES TO.......
But you missed the point.

We already have the series in England, with an inferior team. If we win SA we'll definitely be the best.

Re: India vs South Africa 2010/11
we already are pretty much the best. not mind-numbingly dominant of course
a saffie series win will just confirm that. even if we do win in south africa, england and australia over the next year and a bit it will not mean we are way ahead of the pack. the intrinsic quality within the top teams is pretty close together

It think we and SA are clearly better than the rest. It's not much of a difference, but...

I think the question should be whether SA are the best in the world if we win, given that we drew in India recently.

The likely conditions should bring the two batting lineups to an even level. The series will be won by the team that has the best pace attack. Obviously South Africa will start as favourites but don't underestimate the likes of Zaheer and Sreesanth in swinging and seaming conditions.
