Conn just sets out to be as abrasive as possible, regardless of the facts.

Robin Marlar (Sunday Times) in the 70s was an insufferable sanctimonious ass.
His hankering for The Good Old Days of amateurism, Gents v Players and the moral superiority of English cricket were even too much for EW Swanton, who in 1974 after a day's play shortened to half an hour, used all the time left over in his Stumps Summary to tear one Marlar pontification into a million pieces.
I think Marlar might have retired, but your comments are spot on. He once advocated starting the English season should start in March FFS!!!.
This is the man who, when sent in as Nightwatchman, was stumped third ball for 10!

Half my bottle of water ended up on the keyboard after reading the comment about the stumping. So what was it six, four, out?

According to a CMJ article I have just read - he was out second ball for six, but the point is still valid.
