OK obviously this was a reminder to all that Kerry's successors still run the game. So I'm guessing CA caved but named 17 as an insurance policy.

Be piss funny if half of them fail miserably this weekend and some floater gets a 300 or a tenfer.

They had to provide a 'story' and they did. Right now if the heavies at WarthogTV are whinging into their Scotch about how zero-impact the story was, somebody give 'em a straw....

If 10 days before Test 1 day 1 last year or most other years, I'd been asked how many players were still in contention, I'd have guessed somewhere around 17.

Hildick said that only injury could force someone from outside the squad into it.

McDonald has to be unlucky not to at least get into an expanded squad. Many others have done a lot less of late.

Seven hours to kill at Sydney airport so I got the train to Circular Quay to catch the squad announcement at first hand. It was a PR disaster, shoved away in a corner almost under the railway line. It was pissing down and no more than thirty fans in attendance.

I am told by 'a reliable source close to Cricket Australia' that the 'event' and its timing was at the behest of CA's marketing department and not the selectors who wanted to wait until a more appropriate time after the last round of Shield matches and the Australia A game against England. incidentally heard Haurie on the radio bigging himself up as Oz's number 1 spinner and talking about his really good form in the last shield game against the Vix...the straightbreaking run leaker is rewriting history in the same tradition as bung lee...he got carted in that match when it mattered
